U-19: Ukraine loses to Netherlands in Marbella tournament semifinal clash

Today, October 11, Ukraine’s U-19 team (players born no earlier than 2006) kicked off their campaign in the four-team tournament in Marbella to prepare for the EURO 2025 qualifiers.

The tournament follows an Olympic-style knockout system, although it's worth noting that three of the participating teams have U-18 players in their squads.

In the first semifinal, Sweden defeated England 2:0. Later, Ukraine faced the Netherlands.

The first half saw intense action, with Husol, Ponomarenko, and Dykyy coming close to scoring for Ukraine. Shevchenko had the best opportunity when, after a pass from Korobov, he went one-on-one with the goalkeeper but missed wide. For the Dutch, Bagati was the most active, with El-Gharmouz and Kluivert also posing threats, but both goalkeepers, Hani and Surkis, were solid in defense.

After the break, both teams remained active, but it was Netherlands who found success. In the 78th minute, van den Berg struck from 15 meters out into the far corner, making it 1:0.

As a result, on October 14 at 14:30, Ukraine will face England in the third-place match, while Sweden and the Netherlands will compete for the tournament title two hours earlier.
