In the first round of Euro 2023 (WU-19) qualification, Ukraine's women's youth national team has been placed in Group A6, where they will face Germany, Austria, and Israel. The matches will take place in Israel on November 8th, 11th, and 14th at the National Team Complex Shefayim (Shefa'amr) and Ramat Gan National Stadium (Ramat Gan). Today at noon Kyiv time, our team will meet Austria.
"Before leaving Warsaw for Tel Aviv, Ukraine's national team conducted four training sessions on the pitch of Lviv University of Physical Culture, where conditions were suitable for us," said head coach Valeriy Palamarzhuk in an interview with the official website of the UAF. "However, we could not involve those players who play abroad. A quartet of girls joined us directly at Warsaw Airport, while goalkeeper Kateryna Boklach arrived independently as she had to play a league match for her club Grenoble on Sunday."
The team has gathered all the strongest players in this age group, and the only concern is the lack of game practice. It's important that everyone is healthy and eager to fight.
It's good that the opening match against Austria will take place in Shefa'amr, where we are based. The pitch at the local stadium is excellent quality. We're pleased with the warm weather...
Germany's national team is the favorite for this tournament, but Austria does not hide its desire to also compete for first place. Our goal is more modest—to put up a good fight against the hosts and achieve a positive result in that match, securing our spot in the elite division.
Overall, 28 teams are participating in Group A (including eight that advanced from Group B at the end of the second round of qualification for the season-2021/2022, which concluded this spring). They are divided into seven groups. Teams in each group will play a mini-tournament on one venue.
Teams finishing fourth will continue their campaign in the second round of Group B. The seeding for the second round will depend on the positions teams secure in their respective groups during the first round. Belgium will also participate despite having an automatic qualification to the finals as hosts.
Teams from Group B (including those that dropped from Group A at the end of the season-2021/2022 second round, and Gibraltar's team making its debut in UEFA women’s tournaments) will compete for promotion to Group A across seven groups. Winners of each group will advance to a higher division.
As a reminder, Ukraine's women's youth national team retained their place in Group A by securing third position in their group during the second round qualification for Euro 2022.
