Ukraine defeats France to win historic bronze medals at Futsal World Cup 2024

In their seventh and final match of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024, the Ukraine national futsal team defeated France in the battle for third place.

During the group stage, our team initially lost to Argentina (1:7) but then triumphed over Angola (7:2) and Afghanistan (4:1). Finishing second in their group, the Blue and Yellows advanced to the Round of 16, where they defeated the Netherlands (3:1). In the quarterfinals, Oleksandr Kosenko's side triumphed over Venezuela (9:4), but fell short against Brazil (2:3) in the semifinals.

Today, in Tashkent, the Blue and Yellows fought for the bronze medals of the tournament. Their opponent was the French team, making their debut at the World Cup. It is worth noting that Shoturma was unable to assist our team due to injury.

The first 10 minutes of the match were not rich in chances: several saves were made by Sukhov, while the Ukrainians rarely threatened the opponent's goal. The situation changed when our team scored with Chernyavskyi's finish after Korsun's assist. The French immediately responded with a dangerous attack, but somehow no one managed to connect with the far post.

Before the break, Abakshyn had a chance to score, hitting the post in one instance and then shooting over the goal. Also memorable was Garros's save after a shot from Korsun and Semenchenko hitting the crossbar after a corner kick. Meanwhile, Sukhov saved our team after two sharp attacks from Giriou.

The French began the second half actively, but it was the Ukrainians who scored — in the 22nd minute, Zvarych headed in a cross from Semenchenko. However, the Tricolores quickly reduced the deficit when Giriou launched a counterattack and passed to Saadavi for an empty-net finish.

In the 27th minute, our team increased their lead — Zhuk received a pass from Shved, turned, and pushed the ball into the net. Moments later, Zhuk scored again, finishing after Melnyk's shot. Abakshyn then completed a hat-trick, sending the ball into an empty net after a French mistake while playing with the fifth field player.

Thus, under the guidance of Oleksandr Kosenko, the Ukrainian team won the match for third place with a score of 7:1. Our futsal team secured historic bronze medals at the World Cup.
