Half-defender Maxim Kucheravy: "Confident that all athletes from Ukraine who will participate in the Olympic tournament will do everything to make our country proud"

Semi-defender of Ukraine's youth team Maxim Kucheravy spoke about the unique opportunity to bring joy to the entire Ukrainian nation through our team's participation in the Olympics in Paris.

The 21-year-old midfielder for Scotland's "Celtic" and Ukraine's youth team, candidate for the Olympic team Maxim Kucheravy shared with FIFA’s official website his expectations from Ukraine's first-ever participation in the Olympics.

"While some may say that football at the Olympics is not as big as the World Cup or European Championship, for me it has always been at a very high level. I have always wanted to experience what it's like to participate in the Olympics. If I get a chance, this will definitely be the fulfillment of my dream», — said the player.

In the second half of 2023, Maxim Kucheravy was called up to Ukraine's U-21 team, which secured five consecutive victories with his help.

«We have many very good young players in our country. Quality is there. For me, it's a great experience to be called up to the youth team. Now we have Spanish coach Unai Melgosa, and we have the opportunity to absorb his ideas, adding them to the ones each of us gets at their club. You just keep learning, learning, and learning. I play all over the field, whether as a defensive midfielder or an attacking one, left or right. My comfort zone is quite large.

It means a lot to every player to represent their country, especially in this period. Our national team cannot play home games in Ukraine due to the war. We played in Slovakia and Spain, and people who had to leave Ukraine watched us. We saw them before and after matches — and you understand how much it means for them to watch their team's game. Watching the Olympics will bring a lot of joy to our country. I am sure that all athletes from Ukraine participating in the tournament will do everything they can to make our nation proud», — added Maxim Kucheravy.

We remind you that under Ruslan Rotan's leadership, Ukraine's youth team reached the semi-finals of Euro-2023 (U-21) last summer and secured a place in the Olympics.
