The match, as planned by the coaching staff, will take place a day before another preparatory game — against Croatian "Rijeka". The UAF also reached an agreement with two other sparring partners regarding matches to be held in the second half of May. It can now be confidently said that blue-and-yellow will play friendly games throughout the week before their playoff match in Scotland. Information about who exactly and when Ukrainians will play will be announced after both sides agree on the date for releasing this information.
As we already reported, in the friendly matches, blue-and-yellows will wear a unique kit featuring a map of Ukraine with borders shaped like flags of countries supporting our country against Russian occupiers, along with the inscription "UnitedforUkraine", and a patch with the graphic of the United24 platform. The cost of tickets for the game is 10 euros.
The match, which will start at 8:30 PM Central European Time (9:30 PM Kyiv time), will take place on the municipal Carlo Castellani stadium, which accommodates over 16 thousand spectators. The city of Empoli is located in the Tuscany region, about 35 km from Florence.
The football club "Empoli" was founded in summer 1920 and recently celebrated its centennial anniversary. In the last 35 years, blues have six times risen to Serie A from Serie B and six times been relegated back down a class. Overall, this season for "Empoli" is already their 15th in the top division of the Italian championship. Last year, Tuscans finished 14th, while this season they are on 13th place, securing themselves a spot in Serie A for next season with two rounds to go.
"Empoli" has good traditions in youth and junior sectors: last year the club won Primavera (the highest league of Italy's youth championship), while this season they participated in UEFA Youth League. "Empoli" has prepared many players who later became stars of Italian football, including Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who with the national team won the title of European champions last summer.
In the match against the Ukrainian national team, the goalkeeper of blues, Giulio Vicari, will take the field. A few weeks ago, he welcomed into his family a woman and her child who were forced to leave Ukraine due to the war.
