The Ukrainian national team is set to face its seventh playoff cycle in history. Previously, the blue and yellow have succeeded only once out of six attempts — following five consecutive failures.

The first three playoffs for us unfolded under a complex and not particularly encouraging format: defeat away, draw at home. The order of these matches did not matter. Neither did the scenario of each individual duel. The result was always the same.

Subsequently, however, variations emerged. Against Greece, we played to a draw away but lost in Donetsk. Against France, for the first time, we managed to win at least one playoff match, but were crushed on the road. And only against Slovenia did we manage not just to exact revenge for the tears of November 1999 and avoid losing either of the two matches, but also qualify for the final tournament.
