On June 4 at the "Spartak" stadium in Korosten, a social event took place within the framework of the nationwide project "Open Football Festivals," implemented by the Ukrainian Association of Football together with the Zhytomyr Regional Association of Football and international partners.

The goal of this initiative is to provide psychosocial support to children affected by the war, including internally displaced children (IDPs), as well as local schoolchildren. Special attention was given to teaching children how to minimize risks associated with explosive objects and safe behavior in emergency situations.

Seventy-two children from Lyceums No. 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, and 11 of Korosten participated in the event.

The initiative also involved the 8th State Fire and Rescue Unit of the Third State Fire and Rescue Detachment of the Main Department of Emergency Situations Service in Zhytomyr Oblast. Specialists and a psychologist conducted important interactive discussions with children on safety during wartime.

At the end of the event, all participants received diplomas and footballs presented by the executive director of the Zhytomyr Regional Association of Football Ruslan Mayevskyi and project coordinator in Korosten Hromada Ihor Ohrimchuk.

The Ukrainian Association of Football's "Open Football Festivals" project is about:

  • community youth leadership;
  • psychosocial support for children of military personnel, IDP children, and war-affected children;
  • unity and friendship between IDP children and local children, social integration;
  • an inclusive environment where everyone participates, including children with special educational needs;
  • knowledge of safety in wartime conditions;
  • the philosophy of mass football — joy from playing instead of results at any cost;
  • cultivation of a healthy lifestyle;
  • volunteer development;
  • activation of local communities through cross-sectoral networks (youth leaders, teachers, coaches, psychologists, safety experts, parents, local authorities, benefactors, etc.).
