To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 10:00 on October 17, 2023 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The six hundred and first day of the large-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine has begun.

Forces of the Ukrainian defense continue to conduct defensive operations in eastern and southern Ukraine, offensive operations on the Melitopol direction, and offensive actions on the Bakhmut direction, destroying the enemy, step by step liberating temporarily occupied territories, consolidating on achieved lines.

At the beginning of the day, Russian occupiers launched another missile-air strike against Ukraine, using guided air-launched missiles Kh-59, surface-to-air guided missiles S-300 and six unmanned combat aerial vehicles Shahed-136/131. Forces and means of anti-aircraft defense destroyed one guided air-launched missile Kh-59 and six enemy Shahed-136/131.

During the past day, 72 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy delivered 10 missile strikes and 68 air strikes, carried out 87 shelling with multiple rocket launchers on our troops positions and populated areas. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are fatalities and injuries among civilians. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

Air strikes hit Buchky in Chernihiv region; Pereshchepine, Pishchevoye in Kharkiv region; Severodonetsk, Zvanivka, Spirne, Klichievka, Novoselivka, Avdiyivka, Pereymayorsk, Mariinka, Novomykhailivka, Staromajorske in Donetsk region; Mykolayivka, Kazatske, Odarkiyanka, Berislav, Tyagynka, Ivanivka in Kherson region.

Under artillery fire were about 120 populated areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic grouping of troops «North» on the Volyn and Polesie directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.

On the Severnyy and Slobozhanskyi directions the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent our troops from redeploying to threatening directions, increases mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in Belgorod region.

In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic grouping of troops «Khortytsia» on the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled close to 15 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka and Ivanivka, Kharkiv region, as well as five more attacks near Stepanovka and Nadyya, Luhansk region.

On the Lyman direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.

On the Bakhmut direction, our defenders repelled three attacks by the enemy in the area of Andriyivka, Donetsk region. Forces of the Ukrainian defense continue assault operations south of Bakhmut, inflicting losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment, consolidating on achieved lines.

In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic grouping of troops «Tavria» on the Avdiivka direction, the enemy does not attempt to encircle Avdiyivka. Thus, during the day our soldiers repelled more than 10 attacks by the enemy.

On the Mariinka and Shakhtarsk directions, our defenders repelled over 15 attacks by the enemy in the area of Mariinka, Donetsk region, as well as five more attacks south of Zolotoy Niva and south of Prichystivka, Donetsk region.

On the Zaporizhzhia direction, our defenders prevented loss of positions southwest of Novodanylivka, Robotino and west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region.

In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic grouping of troops «Odessa» on the Kherson direction, forces of defense conduct counter-battery fire, successfully targeting enemy reserves and rear areas.

Forces of the Ukrainian defense continue to conduct offensive operations on the Melitopol direction. They have partial success in the area west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian soldiers inflict losses on occupation troops in manpower and equipment, exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.

In the northern outskirts of the village of Zamystya, located on the road from Tokmak to Berdyansk in temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region, about 300 Russian occupiers are deployed who are conducting mine-laying and have ordered local combine workers to leave their fields.

In Makieyivka, temporarily occupied Donetsk region, on the basis of city hospital No. 2, Russian occupiers plan to set up a hospital for treating their wounded. Over the past three days, there has been accelerated discharge of civilian patients without additional medical facility setup. This leads to extremely low quality of medical care.

During the day, aviation of the defense forces delivered four strikes on areas of enemy personnel concentration, armament and military equipment.

Subunits of rocket troops damaged two helicopters at landing sites, ammunition depot and artillery system of the enemy.

Estimated losses of the enemy over the past day totaled approximately: 800 Russian occupiers, 14 tanks, 20 armored combat vehicles, 26 artillery systems, 11 tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, two cruise missiles, 22 vehicles and one unit of special equipment.
