President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about another wave of terrorist missile strikes by occupiers on our cities and emphasizing the inevitable responsibility of all those involved in these crimes.
"Unbreakable people of an unbreakable country!
Russia struck again with missiles today, targeting Kyiv. Early morning. The second army in the world "won" a kindergarten and a residential building. A man died; he was only 37 years old. There are injured, including a girl named Yena, who is seven years old, daughter of the deceased, she is now at Children's Hospital. Her mother is also injured. By the way, a Russian citizen. That’s it. She had nothing to fear in our country until Russia decided that everything is now an enemy — women, children, kindergartens, residential buildings, hospitals...
Missiles hit Mykolaiv region, Chernihiv region, Odesa, and Cherkasy. Artillery and mortar shelling did not stop in Kharkiv region, Sumy region, Donbas, and the south of our country. My condolences to relatives and loved ones of those who died. All injured are receiving necessary assistance.
Some missiles were intercepted. But only some. We need a powerful air defense system — modern and fully effective. One that can provide full protection from these missiles. This is what we talk about daily with our partners. There are already some agreements. And partners must move faster if they truly are partners, not observers.
Delaying the transfer of weapons to our country, any restrictions — this is actually an invitation for Russia to strike again and again. Occupiers — these terrorists — need to be beaten with all force so that they do not think they can intimidate anyone into surrendering.
What are today’s missiles about? What were the 62 missiles yesterday, in just one day, 24 hours? They are about Russia's signature: escalating every time there are international events. And at the same time, they are about determination. About how leaders of the "G7," who gathered today in Germany for a summit, have enough collective potential to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine and Europe as a whole. This is possible.
But this is possible only if we receive everything that we ask for, exactly within the terms we need — weapons, financial support, sanctions on Russia. Otherwise there can be no end to this war. Because it is here — in the sky above Kyiv, at sea near Odesa, on land in Kharkiv region, Donbas, in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia — that the future of life in Europe will be decided. Right here, in Ukraine.
Of course, Russia does not have as many missiles as we have confidence in our own strength. But Russian weapons can only be stopped by stronger weapons.
Today I spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — about how we can further strengthen defensive support for Ukraine and intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. Thanked Justin for the already provided assistance — one of the most significant.
And today, I want to say a few more things, very specific ones.
Firstly, all pilots, air traffic controllers, technicians and other people involved in launching missiles at Ukraine must understand this: we will find you all. Each of you will be held accountable for these strikes. And if anyone thinks they can escape responsibility by saying it was an order — you are mistaken. When your missiles hit residential buildings — that is a war crime. Trial awaits each and every one of you. You cannot hide anywhere — neither on the shores of the Caspian Sea, under which your rockets fly, nor in Belarus... Nowhere.
And separately, I want to address today's citizens of Belarus. To people — both civilians and those in uniform. You are being dragged into war. And even more actively than it was in February and during the spring months. The Kremlin has already decided everything for you — your lives mean nothing to them. But you are not slaves or cannon fodder. You should not die. And you have the power to prevent anyone from deciding your fate.
I know that the people of Belarus support Ukraine, they support us, exactly us, and not the war. And it is precisely for this reason that Russian leadership wants to drag all of you into the war, wants to sow hatred between us.
A lot depends on ordinary people in Belarus now. And I know that you can avoid participating in this war. Your lives belong only to you and not to anyone in the Kremlin.
Ukraine will defend itself from attacks coming from any direction and with any weapons. I am confident, we will stand firm and return everything of ours. But every person, a regular person in any country, including Belarus, can contribute to protecting life.
This week is going to be very important for all of us. So we continue working at all levels without slowing down our pace.
Glory to everyone who defends the state!
Glory to Ukraine!»
