President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, informing about a new powerful support package for our country from the US and calling on residents of occupied areas in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
"Ukrainians! Ukrainian women!
All our defenders, all our female defenders!
Today was a very significant day in foreign policy for Ukraine. First of all, the prime ministers of Spain and Denmark arrived in Kyiv — two countries that consistently support us. Thank you.
Two leaders whose presence in Kyiv encourages other world democratic leaders to think about visits to Ukraine, about new gestures of support for our country, about concrete decisions we need to win the war. I thanked them for their help with our defense and sanctions pressure on Russia.
I called on Spain, Denmark, and all other European democracies to further strengthen sanctions against this war. Finally introduce an oil embargo, completely disconnect Russia's banking system from the global financial system.
And definitely help us in bringing to justice all those responsible for war crimes against Ukrainians.
The Danish Prime Minister announced readiness to support Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction program, particularly regarding Mykolaiv and shipbuilding. I remind you that this direction of reconstruction was proposed when I addressed the Danish parliament and people in March.
And today I addressed the Portuguese Parliament. This is already the 26th address to the parliaments of partner countries. I can say that each such speech actually adds support for us. It brings decisions about providing Ukraine with aid, especially military aid. And most importantly — every one of these addresses helps establish a direct emotional connection between what we are experiencing in Ukraine and what the political class feels in partner countries.
I also addressed participants at the World Bank's special spring session today. This is one of the most important events for leaders of international financial institutions and finance ministers of leading countries. We are accumulating financial support for Ukraine.
The United States announced a new package of support for our country. Thankful for this. The package includes very powerful military instruments for our troops, including artillery, ammunition, drones — what we were waiting for.
I am grateful to partners for their help and call on them to speed up the supply of weapons Ukraine needs so that we can bring peace closer.
In southern and eastern parts of our country, occupiers continue to do everything possible to have some grounds to talk about victories. They are accumulating forces, pushing new battalion tactical groups onto our land. Even trying to start a so-called mobilization in occupied areas of Ukraine.
None of these steps will help Russia in the war against our country. They can only delay the inevitable — the time when occupiers will have to leave our territory, including Mariupol. The city that continues to resist Russia despite everything the occupiers say about it.
I call on residents of southern regions of Ukraine — Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts — to be very careful with the information you provide to occupiers. And if they ask you to fill out some forms, leave your passport data somewhere, know this is not to help you. Not just to "re-register" people living in a certain territory as they say. No. And not for humanitarian aid either. This is to actually falsify a so-called referendum on your land if Moscow gives the order. That's reality. Be careful.
I want to say right away: no "LPR" will pass. If anyone wants new annexation, it may lead only to powerful sanctions strikes against Russia. You'll leave your country as poor as Russia was in times of the civil war after 1917. So better seek peace now.
Unfortunately, Russia rejected a proposal for a Christmas truce. This clearly demonstrates how leaders of this country actually treat Christian faith and one of the most joyful and important holidays.
But we keep hope. Hope for peace, hope that life will triumph over death.
Tomorrow is Great Friday for Eastern Christians — the saddest day of the year. A day when everything you can do in life matters less than prayer. Except one... except defending your homeland. Except defending comrades-in-arms.
A few minutes ago, before recording this address, I signed another decree awarding our heroes, our soldiers. State awards were conferred on 202 defenders of Ukraine. Of them, 194 are servicemen of the Armed Forces and eight are servicemen of the State Special Communications Service.
Thank you to everyone who defends the country!
Eternal glory to all who fell for Ukraine!
Glory to Ukraine!"
