Training at the Chernihiv Gymnasium No. 35 was conducted by project coaches Tetiana and Bohdan Zhuman.
Project coordinator Anatoliy Svystun from the Chernihiv Football Association noted: "We are participants of a special project because UEFA Playmakers is not just football. It's a world of joy and first victories. Here girls learn not only to handle the ball, they learn to make friends, support each other, believe in their strength. Great dreams start with small steps. I would like to especially emphasize: women’s football is a powerful force in modern sports. This is about equal opportunities, courage to be yourself, and belief that every girl can achieve great heights. The Playmakers project opens doors to football for girls, gives them the chance to feel confident, strong, part of a team. And perhaps here today future champions of Ukraine and the world are taking their first steps."
On behalf of the coaches, Tetiana Zhuman said: "For us, coaches, the Playmakers project is much more than regular training. It's a special atmosphere where every child takes their first steps in the world of football without fear, with joy and smiles. Our goal isn't to immediately train champions right away. What matters most to us is that girls love movement, games, teams. That they feel support, believe in themselves, and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. It’s especially valuable working with girls because they are discovering football for themselves. We see how with each session they become more confident, brave, their self-esteem grows, and their desire to move forward increases. Each training is a small victory. A new step, a new friend, a new smile. And it's from these small victories that great achievements come."
A mother of one of the participants said: "As a mom, I see changes in my child. She comes back from training happy, inspired, with a sparkle in her eyes. She's learning not to be afraid to try, make mistakes and get up again. It’s especially important for me that this project opens football to girls because our daughters are getting the chance to feel strong, brave, and confident. They understand they can do anything. I sincerely thank the coaches for their care, patience, and love for our children. You’re doing an incredibly important job. And I thank the organizers for creating such a warm, friendly environment where every child feels needed and important."
Goals of the UEFA Playmakers program implemented by the Ukrainian Football Association:
— to introduce girls to football by creating an environment where fun, friends, and football are at the center;
— to introduce a new individual coaching approach that uses imagination (inspired by Disney stories and characters) as a tool for training and learning football skills;
— to refine girls' life skills, basic movement skills, and teach them the basics of football to foster a lifelong love for the sport.
