The arena was built within the territory of today's Stryjsky Park specifically for the opening of the General Provincial Exhibition.

Gazeta Lwowska reported that Lviv football players wore gray gymnastic pants and white shirts, while Krakow players wore blue pants and white shirts. After studying the available documents on July 3, 1999, the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Football Association (then — the Football Federation of Ukraine) made a historic decision to consider July 14, 1894 as the birth date of Ukrainian football. — that is, when exactly that short match took place in Lviv.

On July 1, 2004, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution — "On Celebrating the 110th Anniversary of Ukrainian Football." Thus, it was legally established that Ukrainian football counts its history from July 14, 1894.

In the same year of 2004, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary since the day of the first football match in Ukraine, a monument was opened at the site where it took place (sculptor — Yaroslav Skakun).
