In Group E at Euro 2024, four teams have the same number of points. Let's look at the options for Ukraine before the final matches in the quartet.

A victory by Ukraine over Belgium in any result in the parallel game will take the blue and yellow team to the knockout stage. An unbeaten Slovakia in this case would mean first place for us, while Romania's win would give us second place.

A draw between Ukraine and Belgium allows us to occupy third place if there is a winner in the match between Slovakia and Romania. In case of draws in both matches, the blue and yellow team will finish last in the group.

A loss to Belgium would leave Ukraine in contention only if Romania beats Slovakia. Then our national team would occupy third place in the quartet and have a chance to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

From the tournament rules

If two or more teams in one group have the same number of points, then the criteria for determining their places will be applied in the following order:

1. More points earned in matches between these teams.

2. Better goal difference in matches between these teams.

3. More goals scored in matches between these teams.

4. If criteria 1—3 are applied but the teams remain equal, then criteria 1—3 will be reapplied only for matches between two teams if previous criteria 1—3 can eliminate all other teams (third or third and fourth). If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria from 5 to 8 are applied:

5. Better goal difference in all group matches.

6. More goals scored in all group matches.

7. Fair Play points in all group matches (1 point for a yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a result of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card).

8. Ranking in the overall qualification tournament.

If two teams with equal points play each other in the last group stage round, their ranking is determined by a penalty shootout (this criterion does not apply if more than two teams are tied).

The four best teams that occupy third places in their groups are determined according to the following criteria:

1. Points.

2. Goal difference.

3. Goals scored.

4. Wins.

5. Fewest disciplinary points (yellow card — 1 point, red card — 3 points, expulsion for two yellow cards — 3 points).

6. Ranking based on qualification tournament results.
