Ukrainian student futsal teams secure victories in opening playoff matches at World Championship in Shanghai

The World Futsal Championship for Women's and Men's Student Teams, including the Ukrainian teams, is currently held in Shanghai, China, until June 16.

The men's tournament features 14 teams, while the women's tournament has seven. Players eligible for participation must be born in 1999 or later, making the age limit 25 years.

Today, June 14, the first playoff matches took place. The Ukrainian men's team, which finished first in the group stage, faced Morocco in the quarter-finals and clinched a last-minute victory with a score of 4:3. In the women's tournament, competing for 5th to 7th places, Ukraine defeated Poland 6:2.

2024 World Futsal Championship for Student Teams

Men's Teams. Quarter-finals

Ukraine — Morocco — 4:3 (2:3)

Goals: Kalashnyk (18, 23, 40), Haiwan (20) — Badr (7, 12), Haram (18).

The blue-yellows will play against Croatia in the semi-finals on June 15.

Ukraine Men's Student Futsal Team Squad:

Goalkeepers: Mykola Huyvan (Aurora), Dmytro Dyachenko (Cardinal-Rivne).

Women's Teams. Matches for 5th to 7th places

Poland — Ukraine — 2:6 (1:1)

Goals: Renbish (10), Stopka (33) — Kovshyk (10), Yurasova (22), Kaverzina (25, 37), Kuznetsova (29), Kovalenko (35).

On June 15, our women's team will play against Germany.

Goalkeepers: Yana Yarmolska (Legion), Varvara Novikova (Ladomyr).

Outfield Players: Kseniya Burlachenko, Anna Kaverzina (both International, Portugal), Daria Kovshyk, Sofiya Koshyk (both Torreblanca V, Spain), Aliona Kovalenko, Yelyzaveta Kuznetsova (both Budstar), Ruslana Dyachuk, Margaryta Yurasova, Viktoria Kulazhenko, Veronika Volosyna (all Dnipro), Viktoriya Dubyna, Dariya Hrebenyuk (both Leader).

Coach: Oleg Shaytanov.

Play-off matches will take place on June 14-16. The top two teams from each group will advance to the men's quarterfinals and the women's semifinals.

It's worth noting that two years ago, Ukraine's men's student team won silver medals in Portugal, while the women's team finished fifth.
