Today, June 6th, the Ukraine Olympic team continued their participation in the international tournament in France, Tournoi Maurice Revello, with a match against Italy.
In their opening match, Ruslan Rotan’s team defeated Indonesia 3:0. They now faced Italy, who also earned three points in the first round by narrowly defeating Japan 4:3. The match took place in the city of Aubagne.
The first half-hour of the game was a battle with few chances. Then Ukraine took the lead: Martynyuk sent Khlan down the flank, who entered the penalty area and skillfully placed the ball into the far corner. Before the break, Fedor and Salyuk tested the Italian goalkeeper, while the Italians had a memorable miss from Gilardi from a lethal position.
In the 53rd minute, Ukraine doubled their lead — a superb long-range shot from Martynyuk following a pass from Fedor. Later, Sikan scored after playing on the rebound from a blocked Khlan attempt. In the 71st minute, another goal came from the newly substituted players, with Yarmolyuk assisting Voloshyn. Krasnopir missed a good chance shortly after. In the end, Ruslan Rotan’s team secured a confident 4:0 victory.
The next match for the blue-yellows in the international tournament will be on June 8th against Panama.
