President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, informing about the strengthening of our capabilities in using drones and countering Russian drones, as well as a rescue operation following a Russian missile strike in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast.
"I wish good health to all Ukrainians,
Today was a long day – many meetings. Planning the next week – important international events. Preparing new lines of cooperation with partners, especially regarding drones, strengthening our capabilities in using drones and countering Russian drones, reinforcing REB – radio electronic warfare means. Held a meeting on security guarantees – this is one of our key priorities. Ongoing bilateral work with partners, and today we determined what results we need to achieve soonest. Also held meetings with the defense cluster of the government – that's Ministry of Strategic Industries and Trade, Minister of Defense, teams from ministries. Key – ensuring our soldiers are armed and equipped with military hardware. Continuous supply, continuous production both in Ukraine and together with partners, with a clear trend towards increasing our own production and ammunition. Working to ensure this year our defense forces can rely on Ukrainian production for the majority of their needs. And so that the enemy feels it – the real power of Ukrainian arms. This feeling is already forming. There are many successful things done by Ukrainian arms alone. And fewer and fewer peaceful nights for the occupiers. It will become much more of our strength. And it will be. For every act of Russian terror, for every attempt by Russia to increase its pressure on our state, on our people, on our positions, we will have an adequate response.
These hours in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast and the Pokrovsky district are seeing a rescue operation following a Russian missile strike. S-300 missiles. Necessary rescue forces and equipment of Ukraine's State Emergency Service are involved. Clearing debris. As of now, over ten people are known to have died, including children... My condolences to all who lost loved ones... The Russians' attack was simply on ordinary residential buildings, private homes. All the injured are receiving necessary help. And Russia must feel – always feel – that none of these strikes will go without consequences for the state-terrorist regime. We must ensure this – with our strength, our own military and political capabilities.
And one more thing.
I want to, as always, highlight our soldiers on the front lines – every man and woman at their posts, on combat missions, those in battle now. All who are helping. Volunteering. Training. All working to save each injured person. To all of you, maximum gratitude! And today I especially want to recognize Ukrainian border guards, alongside all military forces defending our state and independence, who have shown themselves extraordinarily effective these weeks – before New Year's and now. Kharkiv and Kramatorsk Border Guard detachments. Thank you for your strength! Specifically, Staff Sergeant Valeriy Bugor and Captain Ivan Tarasov. Battles on the Bakhmut direction. Mariupol direction. Zhytomyr Border Guard detachment. Specifically, Senior Sergeant Oleksii Shlapakov. Thank you for courage and effectiveness! Soldiers of the "Steel Border" Brigade – Kupyansk direction. Very intense battles with very important results in our boys. Soldier Mykhailo Savchenko, Junior Sergeant Bohdan Kachkovskyi and Senior Sergeant Yevhen Gladkov. Well done!
Glory to all who fight! Glory to all who add their strength to the strength of our state!
Glory to Ukraine!"
