Today Poltava's "Vorskla" and Kryvyi Rih's "Kryvbass" learned their opponents in the women's Champions League qualification.

On June 30, the draw for the first round of the women's Champions League took place in Nyon, Switzerland. For the first time in history, two Ukrainian teams are participating in these competitions—the Poltava "Vorskla" (successor to "Zhitlobud-2"), which will play on the Champions Path, and Kryvyi Rih "Kryvbass," which will compete on the Path of League Representatives.

By the draw, "Vorskla" landed in Group 2 where they will face Estonia's "Flora" in the semifinals.

"Kryvbass" ended up in Group 3, where they will play against French "Paris" in the semifinals.

The current format of the women's Champions League looks as follows.

Format of Competition

Main stage featuring a group stage with 16 clubs. Teams will be divided into four quartets, where they will play each other home and away from October to December.

Winners of the top two spots will advance to the quarterfinals. Quarter-finals and semi-finals will feature two matches per team, with the final consisting of a single match in Bilbao, Spain.

Four teams will receive direct entries into the group stage, while the remaining 12 places will be determined through qualification rounds on the Champions Path (seven spots) and the Path of League Representatives (five spots).

Qualification in both paths will proceed similarly. In the first round, teams will compete in mini-tournaments with winners advancing further. In the second round, teams will be paired off to play each other home and away.

Number of clubs from each association

The list of participants is based on the UEFA women's club ranking at the end of the 2021/2022 season, where Ukraine ranked 15th.

Top six associations in the rankings—France, Germany, Spain, England, Sweden and Czech Republic—are sending three teams each.

The next ten associations—Ireland, Netherlands, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Scotland, Belarus, Ukraine and Austria—are sending two teams each. 

Other associations will be represented by one team.

Stages from which teams start the tournament

The winner of the 2023 Champions League and champions of the top three associations (France, Germany and Spain) will immediately qualify for the group stage.

Champions of other associations enter the Champions Path qualification. Champions of associations ranked fourth to sixth in the ranking (England, Sweden and Czech Republic) start from the second round, while others, including Poltava's "Vorskla," start from the first.

Second-placed teams from the top six associations (France, Germany, Spain, England, Sweden and Czech Republic) will enter the Path of League Representatives qualification from the second round.

Third-place winners in these six associations, as well as second-place finishers in the next ten associations (Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Scotland, Belarus, Ukraine and Austria) will enter the Path of League Representatives qualification from the first round. Among them is Kryvyi Rih's "Kryvbass."

All Russian clubs are excluded from participating in the women’s Champions League for the 2023/2024 season.
