The 2023/2024 season of the UEFA Women's Champions League will be the third in a new format — with a group stage featuring home and away matches played on a round-robin basis.

The current format of the women’s Champions League looks as follows:

Format

The main competition phase — group stage with 16 clubs participating. Teams will be divided into four groups, in which they will play each other once at home and away from October to December.

Winners of the top two spots qualify for the quarter-finals. Quarter-finals and semi-finals will feature two-legged ties, while the final will consist of a single match and take place in Bilbao, Spain.

Four teams will receive direct berths to the group stage, while the remaining 12 places will be determined through qualification rounds within the Champions Path (seven spots) and the League Path (five spots).

Qualification in both paths will proceed similarly. In the first round, teams will compete in mini-tournaments, with winners advancing further. In the second round, teams will be paired off to play each other home and away. If more than 50 participants are involved, a preliminary round will take place within the Champions Path where teams will face each other once at home and once away.

Number of clubs from each association

The list of participants is based on the UEFA women's club ranking as of the end of the 2021/2022 season, where Ukraine ranked 15th.

Top six associations in the ranking — France, Germany, Spain, England, Sweden and Czech Republic — will enter three teams each.

The next ten associations — Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Scotland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Austria — will send two teams each (for the first time in history, Ukraine will be represented by two participants in European competitions).

Other associations will be represented by one team.

Stages from which teams start the tournament

The 2023 Champions League winner and champions of three top-ranked associations (France, Germany, and Spain) will qualify directly for the group stage.

Champions of other associations will enter the Champions Path in qualification. Champions from associations ranked fourth to sixth (England, Sweden, and Czech Republic) will start from the second round; others, including Poltava's Worskla, will begin from the first round (if a preliminary round is not held, the number of teams starting at this stage will depend on the number of participants).

Runners-up of the six strongest associations (France, Germany, Spain, England, Sweden and Czech Republic) will start from the second round of the League Path.

Teams finishing third in these six associations, as well as runners-up in the next ten associations (Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Scotland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Austria) will enter from the first round of the League Path. Among them is Kryvyi Rih's Krivbas.

All Russian clubs are excluded from participation in the 2023/2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
