The head coach of Ukraine's U-21 team, Ruslan Rotan, answered journalists' questions after the match against Romania (1:0) at Euro 2023 (U-21):

— We played a very good game. Big compliments to our players! I told the boys that I have no doubt we have a team with character. We can do more, and we need to work on it. For about the first 10 minutes of the match, we were a bit nervous, but then the game was practically under our control. We had many opportunities to score earlier.

— How did you support Vana after he came on as a substitute and got sent off?

— We won this victory with the whole team, including thanks to Vlad. But I told him that he punished himself. He needs to control his emotions, be professional, not pay attention to provocations. This is youth, we are playing a U-21 tournament. For Vana, this will be a very good lesson. It's important that in the remaining minutes, our players fought for the result and for him. He punished himself, big respect to the boys. I think he won't repeat such mistakes in the future.

— In the second half, there were many episodes when we closed off the Romanians in their own penalty area. They heavily congested our center, and we had to stretch them out. What is most difficult for the team in such moments?

— When you have an advantage but the ball doesn't go into the goal, the most important thing is the reaction after losing possession, mistakes when we immediately give back the ball. Today this happened, the boys finally understood it and gave their all. You earn luck with your play, skill, and character.

— Are you not afraid that UEFA won't count the win against Croatia because two players who shouldn't have played were on the field?

— I already answered this question yesterday at the press conference. We have documents we sent to UEFA. They gave us clear recommendations: we need to resolve issues with clubs that should allow these players to play in the match. So there were no problems, the issue is resolved.
