To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on April 20, 2023 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The four hundred and twenty-first day of the large-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine has begun.

Over the past day, the enemy carried out three missile strikes and 57 air raids, including the use of 26 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the "Shahed-136" type. Twenty-one of them were destroyed by our defenders. The Russian aggressors also conducted 69 artillery attacks on positions of our troops and populated areas. There are casualties among civilians, as well as damage to private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes across the territory of Ukraine remains high.

At great cost, the enemy continues its war of aggression. Main efforts are focused on conducting offensive operations along the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Mariupol, and Shakhtarsk directions. Over the past day, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled more than 55 attacks by the enemy in these sectors. The fiercest battles are taking place for Bakhmut and Mariupol.

On the Volynian, Polesian, Northern, and Slobozhansky directions, the operational situation — no significant changes. A comprehensive readiness check of military forces of the Republic of Belarus is ongoing.

Over the past day, the enemy shelled populated areas of Shaligino, Boyaro-Lyachiki, Iskriskivshchina, Bilypyllya, Volvyno, Katerinivka and Kindratiivka in the Sumy region, as well as Strilechya, Ogiretske, Vovchan'sk, Petro-Pavlivka, Karaiychne, Zemlyanka, Ustynivka and Otradnoe in the Kharkiv region.

On the Kupyansk direction, enemy shelling affected Krasne Pereche, Novomlyn'sk, Dvorichna, Zapadne and Berestove in the Kharkiv region.

On the Lyman direction, the enemy attempted to improve its tactical position, carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the southern outskirts of Kremenna village and Seredynsky forest. Artillery shelling affected Steblyakhivka, Nevske, Dibrova, Kuz'mine and Bihorivka in Luhansk region as well as Ivanivka, Torske, Verkhnyokamyanske and Spirene in Donetsk region.

On the Bakhmut direction, the enemy continues offensive actions. Severe battles are ongoing for the city of Bakhmut. Also over the past day our defenders repelled attacks by the enemy near Khromove village. From enemy shelling suffered Fedorivka, Vasyukivka, Min'kivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomar'kove, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Predtekhine, Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Bila Hora, Druzhba and Zalizne in Donetsk region.

On the Avdiivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions near Avdiivka, Vodiane and Perevalskiy. He did not succeed. Shelled among others Novokalinove, Avdiivka, Tonikyne, Severne, Netaylove, Pereval'skoe and Nevelske in Donetsk region.

On the Mariupol direction, over the past day our defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks near populated areas of Mariupol and Victory. At the same time, enemy shelling affected Krasnogorivka, Georgiyevka, Mariupol and Novomikhaylivka in Donetsk region.

On the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards Vuhledar. In addition to this, shelled Novoukrainka, Prechystivka and Velika Novosilka in Donetsk region.

On the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson directions, the enemy continues defensive actions. At the same time over the day shelled more than 35 populated areas. Among them — Olhivske, Malynivka, Orikhyv, Novodanylivka and Novoandriyivka in Zaporizhzhya region; Dudchani, Kachkarivka, Zmiyivka, Ivanivka, Inzhenerne and Dniprovskoye in Kherson region as well as the city of Kherson.

In units of the Russian "volunteer" formation "Nevoisky", which are participating in combat operations in Donetsk region, servicemen have a low level of moral-psychological state. It has been established that the main factors for this include heavy losses in manpower during combat operations, untimely supply of occupiers with ammunition, uncertainty regarding terms of replenishment of personnel units that suffered combat losses. The number of those wishing to leave their units and withdraw from areas of combat operations to the Russian Federation is increasing.

In the populated area of Iziumivka on temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, about 400 conscripts of the Russian occupation forces stationed at the "Scythian Valley" rest base are planned to be relocated to defensive positions in the vicinity of the village of Volodymyrivka of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The aviation of the Defense Forces carried out seven strikes on areas of concentration of manpower over the day, and subunits of rocket troops and artillery inflicted damage on two areas of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment as well as two ammunition depots of the enemy.
