Note for your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on April 16, 2023 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.
Glory to Ukraine! The four hundred and seventeenth day of Russia's large-scale military aggression against our state has begun.
The Russian Federation continues its war of aggression, completely ignoring international humanitarian law, striking civilian objects.
Over the past day, the enemy carried out 28 air strikes and six missile attacks, conducted 38 artillery shelling of our troops' positions and civilian infrastructure in populated areas.
The Russian aggressor continues to use tactics of terror; the likelihood of missile and aerial strikes on all territories of Ukraine remains high.
The enemy suffers heavy losses but does not give up its plans for occupying our territory. It continues to focus its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka directions. The epicenter of combat actions remains Bakhmut and Mariinka. During the day, our soldiers repelled more than 60 enemy attacks in the specified sectors.
On the Volynsky, Polesky, Seversky, and Slobozhansky directions no signs of forming offensive groupings by the enemy have been detected. A comprehensive check of combat readiness of the armed forces of the republic of Belarus is ongoing. Some units of territorial troops of the Russian Federation's armed forces continue to be present on the territory of the republic of Belarus.
Over the past day, the enemy shelled populated areas in Bunyakine, Iskriskivshchina, Volvina, Shpyl, Basyvka, Yunakiivka and Popivka in Sumy Oblast, as well as Kozacha Lopan', Hatishechya, Vovchan'sk and Vovchansky Huzy in Kharkiv Oblast.
On the Kupiansky direction the enemy carried out mine-laying operations around four populated areas. It shelled Novomlyn'ska, Dvorychyna and Berestevo of Kharkiv Oblast.
On the Lyman direction the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions near the populated areas of Dybrova and Bihorivka. Artillery shelling was suffered by Stelmakhivka, Nevske, Bihorivka in Luhansk Oblast as well as Ivanivka, Tor'skoe and Spirene in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Bakhmut direction the enemy continues offensive actions. Fighting for the city of Bakhmut does not cease. The enemy carried out an attack near Khromove village but was unsuccessful. From enemy shelling suffered Vasylkivka, Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomar'kove, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Kostyantynivka, Dilievka and New York in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Avdiivka direction the enemy conducted offensive actions near Avdiivka and Severny of Donetsk Oblast but was unsuccessful. It shelled more than 15 populated areas located near the line of contact, including Keramik, Stepole, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske and Karlivka in Donetsk Oblast.
On the Mariinka direction our defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks near Mariinka village of Donetsk Oblast. At the same time, Mariinka, Kurakhove, Pobeda and Novomikhailivka of Donetsk Oblast suffered from enemy shelling.
On the Shakhtarsky direction over the past day, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. It shelled populated areas in Vuhledar, Perechystyvka, Zolota Niva and Velika Novosilka of Donetsk Oblast.
On the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions the enemy continues defensive actions. Over the past day it shelled populated areas located near the line of contact, including Vremyvka and Novopil in Donetsk Oblast; Olhivske, Maliynivka, Hulyaypole, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Orykhiv in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Antonivka and Zelenivka in Kherson Oblast as well as the city of Kherson. Civilians were killed.
The Russian Federation suffers losses daily in the war it has unleashed against Ukraine, which is evident. It is known that the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation has made a decision regarding the postponement of the start of the educational process for officer corps in some higher military educational institutions from September 1 to December 1.
Also noted is a decrease in personnel numbers in units that have undergone training at ranges, which likely relates to continuous dispatching of small groups to combat areas to replenish losses of combat units.
Recently, an open letter from the terrorist organization "PVK Wagner" with such a "call for volunteers" appeared in the information space. It is known that units of this organization suffered heavy losses during their offensive on Bakhmut.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces carried out 11 strikes over areas of enemy personnel and military equipment concentration, as well as three against anti-aircraft missile systems.
Over the past day, our soldiers shot down an enemy Su-25 aircraft.
Units of rocket forces and artillery inflicted damage on three areas of enemy personnel and military equipment concentration, as well as one area of artillery, a radar station, two radio-electronic combat stations, an anti-aircraft missile system and an ammunition depot.
