President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, speaking about the liquidation of consequences of Russia's terrorist attack on Wednesday and about strengthening our spiritual independence.
"I wish health to all dear Ukrainians!
Today I spoke with the new President of the Czech Republic, Pavel. A good conversation, a partnership one. About defending against the state-terrorist country, about our joint defense of Europe. Thanked for the support already provided by the Czech Republic. There are things we can still do together. Invited Mr. President to visit Ukraine.
Overall, this week has been, as always, active for Ukraine. Visits from the Prime Minister of Finland, the Minister of Defense of Norway, the Secretary-General of the UN Guterres, leaders of the German Social Democratic Party, a conversation with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. All of this is yielding results.
In particular, we have significant reinforcement of our defensive capabilities - I thank Norway for this; we have new agreements on the diplomatic front; there is movement towards Eurointegration - as a result of implementing anti-corruption measures outlined in the recommendations of the European Commission, including appointing a new director to NABU.
I would like to separately thank our energy workers, all repair brigade employees, local and central government officials who were involved in liquidating the consequences of Russia's terrorist attack on Wednesday.
As of today, it has been possible to restore technical capabilities for electricity supply. Kharkiv - with light. Zhytomyr region - with light. All cities and communities where there were problems with energy supply are lit up again. I thank everyone who worked for this!
By the way, our program to exchange old bulbs for new LED ones is being actively implemented. Overall, Ukrainians have already received 12 million LED bulbs. And if we talk about energy savings, then this amount allows us to save up to 600 megawatts of electricity. This is roughly equivalent to more than half the output of the most powerful nuclear power plant unit. Please use our bulb exchange program.
Thank you to our rescuers from Ukraine's State Emergency Service in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson regions, Zaporizhzhia, and border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts. To everyone who consistently and conscientiously liquidates the consequences of Russian shelling.
Today I would like to especially highlight the 41st State Fire and Rescue Unit in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. Major Herman Starcheus, Captain Serhiy Kulichenko, junior sergeants Roman Dychko and Kyrylo Sayenko. Thank you, boys, for your excellent work and courage!
Of course, I thank all our soldiers of the "Khortytsia" and "Tavria" units who are fighting on the hottest fronts in extremely harsh conditions.
In less than a week - since March 6 - and only on one Bakhmut direction alone, we managed to destroy over 1,100 enemy soldiers. These are irreparable losses for Russia, losses right there under Bakhmut. Plus at least another 1,500 wounded enemy casualties - injuries that prevent them from continuing the fight. Plus dozens of pieces of enemy equipment destroyed. Plus burned Russian ammunition depots - over ten.
Thank you to every soldier of Ukraine's Armed Forces, our intelligence personnel - "Shaman" fighters, National Guard members, border guards - everyone who is truly fighting for Ukrainian land, for Bakhmut!
I thank the soldiers of "Tavria," who are effectively fighting in Avdiivka and Mariinka areas. Artillerymen from the 55th Separate Brigade "Zaporizhzhia Sich," soldiers from the 35th Separate Marine Infantry Brigade, 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion, our "seventy-ninth" - paratroopers!
And on the Zaporizhzhia direction of "Tavria" - the 128th Separate Mountain-Storm Brigade. Thank you to all of you, boys!
I thank everyone who again this week helped our soldiers, treated those wounded in battle, sought ways to support them, organized volunteer collections and sent what was needed from here! Together, united, we will come to victory.
There is also movement this week towards strengthening our spiritual independence. Society sees it. And I see the approval of Ukrainians for these steps we have taken - fully legal ones. We will continue on this path. We will not allow a state-terrorist any possibility to manipulate the spirituality of our people, destroy Ukrainian sanctuaries - our lavras - or steal anything from them.
And one more thing. Today marks 160 years since the birth of the great Ukrainian scientist Volodymyr Vernadsky. A person who lived in a very difficult time but who believed in Ukraine, chose Ukraine and helped Ukraine.
We are now living through a time when all historical challenges for Ukraine can be overcome. We can! If we preserve our unity, each other and our state. I thank everyone who cares about Ukraine and Ukrainians! I thank everyone who cares about our unity and the world's unity for Ukraine! Thank you to every soldier fighting for the independence of our country!
May eternal glory to all those who gave their lives for Ukraine! To all whom we remember when we say, "Glory to Ukraine!"
Today I awarded Oleksandr Matyievsky with the title of Hero of Ukraine. A soldier. A person known by every Ukrainian. Someone who will be remembered forever. For his bravery, for his certainty in Ukraine and for his "Glory to Ukraine!"
Glory to the hero!
Glory to the heroes!
To Ukraine - glory!
