President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation, informing about the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff and the impossibility of justifying any Russian strike on our country.
"Ukrainians! Ukrainian women!
Today, Russian terrorists carried out another attack on Donetsk Oblast’s Toretsk — at a public transport stop. Eight people were killed, among the injured are three children. With fragments of shells and blast waves, residential buildings were damaged — these are ordinary multi-story apartment blocks. A church was also damaged — the Holy Pantaleimon Church, with a priest wounded.
This was a deliberate strike by the occupiers, another act of terror — cynical and calculated. They knew where they were hitting and obviously wanted people to suffer.
However, regarding this and thousands of other crimes committed by Russian terrorists, we do not see clear and timely reports from certain international organizations. We saw a completely different report today from Amnesty International, which unfortunately tries to amnesty the state-terrorist and shift responsibility from the aggressor to the victim.
There is no and cannot be — even hypothetically — any condition under which any Russian strike on Ukraine becomes justifiable. The aggression against our country is unprovoked, oppressive, and openly terrorist. And if someone makes a report in which the victim and aggressor are somehow equalized, if analyzing some data about the victim but ignoring what the aggressor was doing at that time — this cannot be tolerated.
Almost 200 religious structures alone — churches and prayer houses of various denominations — have been damaged or destroyed by Russian strikes. Almost 900 medical facilities. Over 2,200 educational institutions. Dozens of universities, hundreds of schools and kindergartens. The occupiers have repeatedly deliberately fired artillery and mortar shells at queues of people for water, at evacuation buses, repeatedly hit public transport stops. The Russian army did not hesitate to strike even at Holocaust memorials, at cemeteries... At a prisoner-of-war camp in Oleksandriya. And there are no reports about this for some reason. That's the kind of moral selectivity.
Anyone who amnesties Russia and who artificially creates an informational context that somehow strikes by terrorists are supposedly justifiable or understandable cannot fail to realize that they are helping the terrorists. And if such manipulative reports, then you also share responsibility for the deaths of people with them.
Every day we expand our foreign policy capabilities — formal and informal. Spoke today with representatives of African media — from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana. African countries can suffer very seriously due to Russia's provoked destabilization of world markets and global relations, especially through a food crisis. And at the same time in Africa there is a shortage of truthful information about Russian war against our country and an excess of Russian propaganda. We will do everything to change this balance.
The first ever bilateral talks with the President of Guinea-Bissau took place today. I noted that Ukraine is ready to be a guarantor of food security for African countries. Discussed support for our country in international organizations.
Tomorrow — new talks with an African leader, and generally only recently we have initiated proper communication with eight leaders of African countries.
Every day I remind certain EU leaders that they cannot make hostages out of Ukrainian pensioners, our internally displaced persons, our teachers and other people who depend on budget payments. 8 billion euros for Ukraine are currently being held up now. And such artificial delay in macro-financial assistance to our country — this is either a crime or an error, and it's hard to say which one is worse under these conditions of full-scale war.
Which European country is holding this up right now, I do not want to name. We will hope that this is still an error and that it will be corrected.
I chaired the meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff today. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov reported on current military equipment and ammunition supply. Also reported General Zaluzhnyi, SBU head Malyk, Interior Minister Monastyrskyi. We analyzed the situation in the most acute front sectors, including in Donetsk Oblast. Special attention was paid to the implementation of previous decisions by the Staff, all of them must be carried out at 100%.
Signed another decree on awarding our soldiers. 192 participants in combat operations were awarded state awards, six posthumously. In total already over 25,500 of our defenders have been honored for bravery and effectiveness in battles since February 24. More than 4 thousand — posthumously.
Eternal memory to all who died for Ukraine!
Eternal gratitude to everyone who fights against Russian terrorists!
Glory to Ukraine!"
