The Ukrainian women's team began preparing for the final tournament as early as June 3. Our team conducted training in San Marino, Italy, France, and Portugal, which is hosting Euro-2022, over the course of a month. During this period, the blue-and-yellow team played four friendlies, including matches against the national teams of Italy and Portugal.

The Ukrainian women's team qualified for the European Championship for the second time, with the tournament once again being hosted by Gondomar in Portugal. The final tournament was originally scheduled to take place in March but was rescheduled to July after consultations and approval from the host country’s football association.

The current European champions, Spain's national team, became the blue-and-yellow team’s semifinal opponent. The Ukrainian players had already faced this team in two friendly matches held at the "Academy of Sport" in Bucha on January 18-19. Then our girls lost twice—7:0 and 3:1.

Already in the first minute of the semifinal match, the Spanish team took the lead—the Maite scored after a mistake by the Ukrainians. Later, Perechenko had a dangerous shot on goal at the fourth minute, but the goalkeeper from the opposing side held firm; Forsyuk and Ruban also attempted shots.

Subsequently, the initiative was completely taken by the Spanish team. On the eighth minute, after a great combination from Luci, she closed out the far post and doubled her team's lead. Later, Kislova came to our team’s rescue several times. At the 17th minute, blue-and-yellow had two chances to break the deadlock; however, Forsyuk was denied by the goalkeeper, while Dubitskaya lacked accuracy.

Shortly before halftime, Claudia Pons' players scored twice more. First, Irene Corodoba skillfully turned around Kislova and then Peké scored a powerful shot to conclude a penalty kick setup.
