The wards of Volodymyr Yezersky have successfully started their battle in the elite round of qualification for Euro 2022 (U-19). To qualify for the final tournament, our boys need to secure first place in the group.
In the opening match in Rotterdam, blue-and-yellow faced off against Norwegians whom head coach of our team Volodymyr Yezersky called favorites of the quartet. The task for our football players was complicated by the fact that since autumn last year they had no game practice due to a halt in all competitions. There was another problem — Udod, Khromey and Shostak could not help the team because of injuries.
The first half of the game was even, while Norwegians managed only one shot on target within 45 minutes. On the field there was plenty of fighting and fouls; Ukrainians had a clear advantage in corners.
The second half turned out to be much richer in events. First, Yarmoluk scored from the penalty spot after Goplan's foul on Roman. After that, players from both teams regularly troubled goalkeepers. On 69th minute, Scandinavians managed to equalize, also from the penalty spot. And the fate of three points was decided by yet another penalty. This time Yarmoluk did not outwit the goalkeeper, but Sapuga was first to the rebound.
Towards the end of the match, our team scored another goal after a substitution when Malish netted, assisted by none other than Yarmoluk again. Norwegians managed only to reduce the deficit in added time.
In summary, Ukrainians won 3-2, so they are preparing with good spirits for their match against Serbia which will take place on June 4th.
