Note for attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on May 16, 2022, regarding the Russian invasion into our country.

The eightieth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people against the Russian military invasion has begun.

The enemy continues to conduct offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone. The main efforts of the adversary are concentrated on the Donetsk direction. On the Slovozhensky direction, it attempts to halt the advance of Defense Forces north of the city of Kharkiv and prevent their exit to the state border of Ukraine. The enemy is preparing for offensive actions with forces deployed in the vicinity of the town of Izium.

Russian aviation carried out strikes on civilian and military infrastructure objects in the Eastern Operational Zone, as well as industrial facilities deep within Ukrainian territory.

On the Volynsky and Polesky directions, the enemy did not conduct active operations. Certain subunits of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus (up to seven battalions) continue to perform tasks for covering the Ukraine-Belarus border sector.

Until May 21, the next stage of readiness checks will take place for the response forces of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus. The activity of a mobile radio monitoring complex is being fixed in the border zone, including on Ukrainian territory. It operates with the aim of monitoring satellite communication networks.

On the Northern direction, the enemy has strengthened control over the Ukraine-Russian border area in Bryansk and Kursk regions and conducts demonstrative actions aimed at holding Defense Forces units on this axis and preventing their transfer to the Eastern Operational Zone. The possibility of shelling and air strikes from the territory of the Russian Federation remains.

On the Kharkiv direction, the enemy concentrates its main efforts on maintaining occupied positions and preventing our troops' advance towards the state border with the Russian Federation.

On the Slovyansky direction, the enemy did not conduct active combat operations. It is carrying out reinforcement and replenishment of losses.

Russian occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure in the areas of the populated places Dovgenkove, Ruski Tishki, Terneva, and Pytrivka with artillery. The enemy conducted aerial reconnaissance using the BPLA "Orlan-10."

On the Donetsk direction, occupiers carried out strikes from all available weapons up to aviation inclusive aimed at exhausting personnel strength and destroying fortification structures of our units.

On the Lyman, Bakhmut, and Kurakhiv directions, the enemy continues offensive operations; combat actions are ongoing.

On the Avdiyivka direction, after losses inflicted by Defense Forces units, the enemy withdrew to previously occupied positions.

On the Severodonetsk and Novopavlivsky directions , active combat operations were not conducted by the enemy; it attempted to carry out fire strikes on our units.

In Mariupol, the enemy continues massive artillery and air strikes. The main efforts of occupiers are focused on blocking and striking our units in the area of the Azovstal plant.

On the South Buzhsky direction, the enemy did not conduct active combat operations, carried out shelling of our units with field artillery and mortars.

Defense Forces inflicted a strike on enemy positions in the area of the populated place Chornobaivka, causing losses in manpower and equipment. The number is being verified.

Over the previous day, subunits of anti-aircraft defense forces and air forces destroyed eleven aerial targets: two helicopters (Ka-52 and Mi-28), seven BPLA tactical-operational level, and two cruise missiles.

Air force aviation continued to inflict fire strikes on the enemy from the air, support combat actions of our units, and patrol Ukrainian airspace on designated axes.

On the Donetsk and Luhansk directions over the past day, seventeen enemy attacks were repelled; three tanks, one artillery system, six units of armored fighting vehicles, and a vehicle of the enemy were destroyed. Losses in personnel strength among Russian occupiers are being verified.
