Last fall, the blue-and-yellow secured third place in Group A of the first round of Euro 2022 (WU-19) qualification and retained their status in the elite division with a chance to qualify for the final tournament.
In December 2021, the draw for the second round of the European Championship among women under 19 took place. As a result, Ukraine's WU-19 team was placed in Group A4. The tournament in our group was scheduled to take place from April 7th to 13th this year but was rescheduled for May. So today in the Austrian town of Vellach, blue-and-yellow faced Norway.
The Ukrainians conceded as early as the ninth minute — Tandberg scored with her head after a corner kick. Shortly thereafter, Glushchenko could have equalized but missed the far post after a solo run. Then again, the Scandinavians managed to score when Sjörborg hit the target from the penalty line at the 18th minute.
After this poor blow, Glushchenko retaliated, but the goalkeeper of the opposing team held firm. The Norwegians continued to dominate and created new dangerous moments. In response, Ukraine's Glushchenko delivered a class header that hit the crossbar. However, at the end of the first half, the Scandinavians scored again — Isaksen met a flank delivery.
In the second half, the opponents of blue-and-yellow only increased their lead. Several of their shots were parried by Boklach, but on the 75th minute, Glushchenko's decent attempt was saved by Panengsten. Near the end of the match, Isaksen completed a brace for Norway. In added time, Boklach managed to save a penalty kick, but Fink scored from the rebound. Ultimately, Valeriy Palamarchuks' wards conceded — 0:5.
In the next match, which will take place in Bad Vömlzheim-Niedharting on May 13th, Ukraine's team will face Austria.
