The friendly match between Canada and Ukraine (4:2) that took place in Toronto as part of the Canadian Shield was special not only because it marked the debut appearance of blue-and-yellow on Canadian soil.

Firstly, our team stepped onto the field wearing a jersey from Lutsk's "Volyn" and a military vest belonging to former footballer Roman Maximyuk, who went to defend our homeland against Russia's full-scale invasion and is currently missing without a trace. The purpose of this action was to support the family of the soldier and demonstrate to the entire world that war affects everyone.

Secondly, captain of Ukraine's team in this match Mykola Matviyenko wore a special captain's armband that carries deep meaning and delivers a powerful message.

On it — badges from combat brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and main forces of the security and defense sector, who hold the line every day on the frontlines.

This armband is a sign of gratitude to everyone fighting for our freedom.

This is an honor to the heroes thanks to whom we are able to step onto the field, play under the blue-and-yellow flag, represent Ukraine in the world and not stop the development of football even during a full-scale war.
