June 7 in Toronto at BMO Field, the Ukraine national team played their first of two friendly matches as part of the Canadian Shield tournament — against Canada's national team.

The home team started the match at a high pace and scored on the fourth minute. Bukkenen outmaneuvered Matviyenko on the right flank, then dodged Kaluzhnyi and passed the ball to Jonathan David in front of the goalkeeper's area. Trubin reacted to the forward's header but David was first to the rebound — 1:0.

The Ukrainians almost immediately had a chance to equalize. Timchik made an acute pass from the right flank, and Sudakov shot from inside the penalty area but hit the goalkeeper. On the 12th minute, Zinchenko had another golden opportunity. Oleksandr took advantage of a long pass from Zabarny and found himself one-on-one with the keeper, opting for technical skill to beat him from the edge of the penalty box, but Krepin saved again.

The Ukrainians failed to capitalize on their chances while Canada doubled their lead in the middle of the first half. On the 24th minute, another home team connection worked — Bukkenen and Jonathan David. The former broke through the right flank, entered the penalty area, and with a hand-like pass put the ball on his partner's head who then scored from the goalkeeper line into the far corner — 2:0. And at the 31st minute, Promis David took advantage of Bondar’s mistake, intercepted the ball, and executed a one-on-one against Trubin — 3:0.

On the first minute of added time in the half, Tsiganok earned a dangerous free kick through individual play and took it himself but hit an opponent in the wall.

The start of the second half was memorable for Yaremchuk's moments. First, the center forward shot from inside the penalty area after a pass by Tsiganok but hit a defender. Then two minutes later Roman finished his sprint to the opponent’s goal with a shot into the near corner, but Krepin reacted.

After a series of substitutions, Riznyk had to enter the game — he saved Nelson's shot. On the 78th minute, after another shot by the same Nelson, the goalkeeper was assisted by his defense. Canada capitalized on their lead at the 81st minute: following a flank pass from Saliba on the right side, the ball bounced to Bukkenen who then put it in the net — 4:0.

In the remaining time, the Ukrainians scored as well. After a flank pass by Mykhaylenko, Gutsulak headed the ball and after the goalkeeper's save, Zabarny was first to the rebound — 4:1. And on the first minute of added time in the match for handball from Bukkenen’s side, a penalty was awarded which Zinchenko converted — 4:2.
