Dynamo Kyiv continued their journey in this year's Europa League with a nominal home game in the main round against Czech side Viktoria Plzeň.
In their previous matches, the Ukrainian side had suffered defeats to Lazio (0:3), Hoffenheim (0:2), Roma (0:1), and Ferencváros (0:4). Today, they faced Viktoria Plzeň at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
The match began with both teams exchanging attacks but without serious threats to the goals. In the 25th minute, Dynamo created a nice counterattack, with Buyalskyi's shot saved by Jedlička. Plzeň responded with a shot from Sulc, which was easily collected by Bushchan. Later, Bushchan had to save a close attempt from Jirka. Towards the end of the first half, Shaparenko was set up for a shot, but he couldn't beat the keeper.
After the break, Jirka fired from close range, and Bushchan saved again. In the 51st minute, Vіvcharenko reacted to a cross from Karavayev and sent the ball into the net, but was offside. Just after, Plzeň took the lead as Vidra turned in front of the penalty area and fired accurately into the far corner.
Dynamo continued to create chances, with Brazhko unleashing a powerful long-range shot, but Jedlička saved. Despite creating more opportunities, Dynamo couldn't score the equalizer, while in the 90th minute, Sulc doubled Viktoria's advantage. It was only after that that Kabaiev scored Dynamo's first goal in the competition with a brilliant long-range shot into the top corner. However, Dynamo suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in the tournament — 1:2.
In Dynamo's lineup, players involved in the November UEFA Nations League matches under head coach Serhiy Rebrov included Bushchan, Shaparenko, Brazhko (assist, yellow card), and Vanat.
