Europa League: Dynamo Kyiv defeated by Lazio in opening match of the league phase

Dynamo Kyiv began their 2024/25 Europa League campaign with a nominal home match against Lazio in the league phase.
Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s side hosted their opponents at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. Unfortunately, the first half was disastrous for the Kyiv team. In just the 5th minute, the defense collapsed in the central zone, allowing Boulaye Dia to strike from mid-range and beat Georhiy Bushchan.
To make matters worse, an injury forced Ceballos off the pitch in the 19th minute. This further weakened Dynamo’s central defense, and within a minute, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Boulaye Dia extended Lazio’s lead to three goals.
Just before halftime, Dynamo regained some composure, creating three dangerous chances through Pikhalyonok, Brazhko, and Yarmolenko. However, Lazio’s goalkeeper denied all attempts.
In the second half, the best chance once again fell to Lazio. In the 61st minute, Pedro Rodríguez broke through one-on-one with Bushchan, but the Dynamo goalkeeper deflected the shot onto the post. To add to their woes, Dynamo were reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute when Maksym Bragaru was shown a straight red card. However, 10 minutes later, Lazio also dropped to 10 players after Tijjani Noslin was sent off for a dangerous challenge.
In the end, the score remained 0:3, marking a defeat for Dynamo Kyiv.
