Europa League: Dovbyk’s goal seals Roma’s win over Dynamo Kyiv
Dynamo Kyiv faced Roma in Rome for their third match in this season’s Europa League league phase.
The Ukrainian side began their campaign with losses to Lazio (0:3) and Hoffenheim (0:2), before traveling to Italy to meet Artem Dovbyk’s Roma.
The hosts started strongly, and Roma took the lead in the 23rd minute when Dovbyk converted a penalty after Mykhavko’s foul in the box. Moments later, Baldanzi had a chance to double the lead for Roma.
Dynamo responded with a chance from Tymchyk, set up by Guerrero, which went narrowly wide. Guerrero failed to beat Svilar from a promising position, and just before halftime, Voloshyn put the ball in the net, only to be ruled offside.
In the second half, Roma focused on preserving their lead while posing a threat to Neshcheret’s goal. In the 76th minute, Dynamo nearly equalized when Mykhavko missed after a corner and Svilar’s error. Vanat later tested Roma’s keeper, and the Italians responded with close attempts from Shomurodov and a shot on target by Pellegrini. Shomurodov missed a golden chance to put the game to bed after a superb team play. Ultimately, Dynamo fell short, losing 0:1 in Rome.
Several Ukrainian national team players, called up by Serhiy Rebrov for the October Nations League matches, took the field: Dovbyk (goal, substituted in the 53rd minute) for Roma; and for Dynamo, Tymchyk, Shaparenko (yellow card, substituted on at the 63rd minute), Kabaiev (yellow card, substituted on at the 63rd minute), Vanat (substituted on at the 68th minute), and Buyalskyi (substituted on at the 81st minute).
