Champions League: Dynamo Kyiv defeats Rangers away to advance to playoff of qualifiers
In the second leg of the Champions League 3rd qualifying round, Dynamo Kyiv faced off against Scottish side Rangers in Glasgow.
The first leg in Lublin, nominally a home match for Kyiv, ended in a 1:1 draw. In Glasgow, the first half saw a fierce contest across the field. Kyiv's Vladyslav Kabayev delivered two notable crosses, while Rangers' Ross McCausland had a chance to open the scoring, but was thwarted by Georgiy Bushchan.
After the break, Dynamo gained a numerical advantage in the 51st minute when Rangers' Jefte was sent off for elbowing Oleksandr Karavaiev. Dynamo took control, with Karavaiev and Vitaliy Buyalskyi both missing good chances.
The decisive moment came late in the match. In the 82nd minute, Oleksandr Pikhalyonok struck a brilliant shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner. Just two minutes later, Nazar Voloshyn capitalized on a flank pass from Mykola Shaparenko to double Dynamo's lead.
With a 2:0 away victory, Dynamo Kyiv advanced to the Champions League playoff round of qualifiers.
Notably, UAF President Andriy Shevchenko and Ukraine national team head coach Serhiy Rebrov were in attendance.
