U-16: Ukraine lost to Northern Ireland in penalty shootout at UEFA Development Tournament
The Ukraine U-16 team (players born no earlier than 2008) kicked off the UEFA Development Tournament in Estonia with a match against their counterparts from Northern Ireland.
In Tallinn, the blue-yellow squad is set to face teams from Northern Ireland, Estonia, and Luxembourg. The tournament is considered one of the stages in the national team's preparation for the Euro 2025 (U-17) qualifying round, scheduled for autumn.
Each team will play three matches. A win will earn three points, while in the event of a draw, a penalty shootout will decide the winner, awarding two points to the victor and one to the defeated team.
Today, under the guidance of coach Yuriy Moroz, the Ukrainian team started the tournament with a match against Northern Ireland. The regular time ended in a draw of 2:2, with goals from Illia Menshykov and Dmytro Zudin for our team. In the penalty shootout, Northern Ireland emerged victorious (7:6), earning two points, while the blue-yellow team received one point.
Next, the Ukrainian youngsters will play against Estonia on April 25.
