To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 09.05.2023 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The fourth hundred and fortieth day of Russia's large-scale military aggression against our country has begun.

Last night, Russian terrorists launched another massive missile strike on Ukraine. The enemy carried out strikes on Ukrainian territory using cruise missiles from naval and air-based platforms.

Around 22.00 on May 8, the enemy fired eight cruise missiles «Kalibr» from carriers in the Black Sea towards eastern regions of the country. All eight were destroyed by anti-aircraft defense forces and means of the Air Command «East».

By around 04.00 on May 9, occupiers launched launches of 17 air-based cruise missiles X-101/X-555 from strategic aircraft — four Tu-95ms (Kaspiy region). Anti-aircraft defense forces and means of the Air Command «Center» destroyed 14 cruise missiles, one more was destroyed in the area of responsibility of the Air Command «South». In total, 15 cruise missiles X-101/X-555 were destroyed.

Overall, during two waves of shelling of Ukraine on May 9, 2023, Russian occupiers launched launches of 25 cruise missiles «Kalibr» and X-101/X-555. Twenty-three of them were destroyed.

During the past day, the enemy carried out 30 missile strikes, 61 air strikes, and conducted 89 shelling with multiple rocket launch systems on our troops' positions and populated areas. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged or destroyed; there are casualties.

The likelihood of further missile and air strikes against the entire territory of Ukraine remains high. Do not ignore air raid sirens.

The enemy continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariupol directions. Fierce battles are being fought for the cities of Bakhmut and Mariupol. In total, during the past day, 42 attacks by the enemy were repelled in these sectors.

On the Volyn and Polesie Directions, signs of forming offensive groups of the enemy have not been detected. Certain units of the Russian Federation's armed forces remain on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

On the Northern and Slobozhansky Directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas with Ukraine. During the past day, the enemy shelled populated areas of Berelevka, Mostyanka, Halahanyvka, Leonivka, Oleksandrivka, Buda-Vorobyivska, Hrymaych Cherkasy Oblast; Znoba-Novgorodskoye, Staraya Guta, Shaligine, Novoselovskoe, Iskriskyshchina, Volfinye Sumy Oblast, as well as Hopivka, Krasnoe, Zelenoie, Starytsia, Ogirevove, Vovchansky Khutora, Karaiychne, Mala Vovcha, Mykolaivka and Nesternoye in the Kharkiv region with mortars and artillery.

On the Kupyansk Direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. Carried out air strikes on areas of populated places Zapadne and Masutyvka. The villages of Kamianka, Topoli, Petro-Ivanivka, Figolivka, Novomlynsk, Zapadne, Liman First, Vilschan, Buhayivka Kharkiv Oblast and Novoselyvskoye and Stelemyhivka — Luhansk were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.

On the Lyman Direction, during the day, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards Bakhmut. Carried out air strikes on areas of populated places Nove and Bakhmut Luhansk Oblast and Verkhnyokamianskoe and Spirene in Donetsk.  Artillery shelling was suffered by Makieivka and Bakhmut Luhansk Oblast as well as Yamopolivka and Spirene — Donetsk.

On the Bakhmut Direction, battles are ongoing in the city of Bakhmut. During the day, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards Ivanivskiy and Chasovoy Yar. Carried out air strikes on areas of populated places Bogdanivka, Bakhmut and Predtechine. From enemy shelling suffered Vasukyvka, Orikhovo-Vasilivka, Novomarkove, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Predtechine, Oleksandro-Shultine, Dilievka, Druzhba, Zalizne and New York Donetsk Oblast.

On the Avdiyivka Direction, during the past day, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the areas of Avdiyivka and Pervomaisk Donetsk Oblast, without success. Conducted shelling of populated places Novokalynove, Berdychi, Lastochkine, Avdiyivka, Severne, Vodyane, Pervomayske, Netaylove Donetsk Oblast.

On the Mariupol Direction, units of the Defense Forces repelled numerous attacks by the enemy in the area of the city of Mariupol. Also suffered from enemy shelling Georgiyivka and Victory Donetsk Oblast.

On the Shakhtarsk Direction, during the day, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. Carried out an air strike in the area of Velika Novosilka. Conducted shelling of populated places Paraskevivka, Novomikhaylivka and Vuhledar.

On the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson Directions, the enemy continues to conduct defensive actions. Carried out air strikes on areas of populated places Vremyevka Donetsk Oblast and Hulyaypole and Novodanilivka Zaporizhzhya Oblast. Conducted shelling over 30 populated places near the line of contact. Among them — Vremyevka, Novosilka, Zeleno Pole, Novopil Donetsk Oblast; Olhyvskoye, Hulyaypole, Zaliznychnoe, Hulyaypilske, Bihor'ya, Mala Tokmachka and Kamyanske Zaporizhzhya Oblast; Zolota Balka, Kachkarivka, Zmiyivka, Tyagynka, Antonivka, Dniprovskoye, Kizomys, Stanislav Kherson Oblast and the city of Kherson.

Russian occupiers do not stop looting Ukrainian citizens, enterprises, and state institutions on temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhya Oblast. To transport looted property from populated areas near the line of contact, looters are recruiting drivers and owners of trucks among local collaborators. They take it in the direction of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 16 strikes on enemy concentrations of manpower and military equipment during the past day.

During the past day, our defenders destroyed an enemy reconnaissance UAV of the Zala type.

Units of rocket troops and artillery hit three areas of concentration of live forces, two ammunition depots, and another three important enemy targets.

Overall during the past day our defenders liquidated 650 Russian occupiers, destroyed four tanks, four armored combat vehicles, thirteen artillery systems, one air defense system, four tactical UAVs, eleven cars, and four units of special equipment.
