To your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 on May 8, 2023, regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The four hundred thirty-ninth day of the large-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation against our state has begun.

During the night of May 8, 2023, the enemy again attacked Ukrainian territory using Iranian Shahed. 35 drones. Thirty-five out of thirty-five drones were destroyed by our defenders.

Continuing its terror tactics, yesterday the Russian Federation carried out sixteen missile strikes, including on cities in Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions. Additionally, sixty-one air raids and fifty-two enemy artillery attacks with multiple rocket launchers were recorded against our military positions and populated areas. Sadly, there are fatalities and injuries among the civilian population, as well as damage to multi-story buildings, private settlements, and other civil infrastructure.

The likelihood of further Russian missile and air strikes across all of Ukraine remains high.

The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka axes. Intense battles are ongoing for the cities of Bakhmut and Mariinka. In total, fifty-five enemy attacks were repelled in these sectors over the past day.

On the Volyn and Polesie fronts, no signs of forming offensive groupings by the enemy have been detected.

On the Northern and Slobidska fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas with Ukraine. Over the past day, the enemy carried out air strikes on the regions of Zarychche, Leonivka, Kostobrovyvka Chernihiv region, and Gluhov Sumy region. It conducted mortar and artillery shelling of populated areas such as Orlikivka, Timonovichi, Zarychche, Blesnya, Zaliznyy Most, Arkhipivka, Leonivka, Buchky Chernihiv region; Staraya Huta, Seredina-Buda, Bachivsk, Ulanove, Vorovba, Iskriskyshchyna and Novhorodskye Sumy region, as well as Udi, Vovchanivka, Plytenivka, Bochkove, Mala Vovcha, Nesterne, Budarki and Stroyivka in Kharkiv oblast.

On the Kupiansk front, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. It carried out air strikes on the regions of Grynykyvka and Vylshana. Artillery and mortar shelling was experienced by populated areas such as Krasyne Pereche, Figolivka, Novomlynskyi, Zapadne, Liman Pervyi, Berestove Kharkiv region, and Novoselyvske and Stehlamakhivka Luhansk region.

On the Lyman front, over the day the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards Spirne. It conducted air strikes on the regions of Bilohorivka Luhansk region, as well as Torske and Spirne Donetsk region. Artillery shelling was experienced by Stehlamakhivka, Makieyivka and Nevskye Luhansk region, as well as Bilohorivka and Spirne Donetsk region.

On the Bakhmut front, the enemy continues to conduct offensive actions. Battles are ongoing in the city of Bakhmut, where occupiers shelled the city with incendiary and phosphorus ammunition. Over the day, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions towards populated areas such as Khromove, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. It conducted air strikes on the regions of Bakhmut, Bogdanivka, Kurdyumivka and New York. Areas affected by enemy shelling include Zaliznyanske, Oryhovo-Vasilivka, Novomarkove, Markove, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Oleksandr-Shultyne and Leonidivka Donetsk region.

On the Avdiivka front, over the past day the enemy conducted offensive actions in the areas of Avdiivka and Pervomaisk. It shelled populated areas such as Keramik, Novokalynove, Ocheretinе, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Netaylove, Karlivka and Gostre Donetsk region.

On the Mariinka front, units of the Defense Forces repelled numerous attacks by the enemy in the area of Mariinka city. At the same time, enemy shelling affected Krasnogorivka, Georgiyivka, Kurakhove and Pobeda Donetsk region.

On the Shakhtarsk front, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. It shelled populated areas such as Novomykhailivka, Katerynovka, Yelizavetivka, Vuhledar, Pavlivka, Prechystyvka, Zolotane Niva, Novoukrayinka, Shakhtarske and Velika Novosilka Donetsk region.

On the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson fronts, the enemy continues to conduct defensive actions. It carried out air strikes on the regions of Vremivkye Donetsk region, Hulyaypole and Novodanilove Zaporizhzhya region. It shelled over fifty populated areas. Among them are Poltavka, Charyvne, Novoandriyivka Zaporizhzhya region; Zamievka, Prydniprovskye, Romashkove, Yantarnoe, Kizomys, Sofiyivka and Stanislav Kherson region as well as the city of Kherson.

Russian occupiers are conducting so-called evacuations of local residents from temporarily occupied Tokmak Zaporizhzhya region towards populated area Berdyansk. This procedure applies to representatives of so-called local authorities, collaborators, children, teachers and caregivers. Parents are threatened with not registering the school year if they refuse to "evacuate" their child. Long lines for fuel are observed at gas stations, all drivers have been informed that no new fuel deliveries are planned.

In populated area Veselye Zaporizhzhya region, the local police department of the enemy is closed and not functioning. The day before, the destruction of documents of this institution was observed.

The aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out eight strikes against areas of concentration of personnel and military equipment of the enemy over the past day, as well as a strike on an enemy air defense missile system.

Our defenders also destroyed two attack drones and six reconnaissance drones of the enemy.

Units of rocket forces and artillery simultaneously struck two command points, two areas of concentration of weapons and military equipment of occupiers, as well as three ammunition depots of the enemy.

Overall, our defenders liquidated 540 Russian occupants, destroyed seven tanks, five armored combat vehicles, eight artillery systems, forty-two tactical-level drones, six cars, and four units of special equipment.
