The Football Association of Malta has announced the appointment of Michele Marcolini as the new head coach of the national team, which is a qualifier opponent for Ukraine in the Euro 2024 playoffs.

The contract with the 47-year-old Italian has been signed until the end of 2024, the official website of the Football Association of Malta reports. Marcolini will take up his duties from January 1, 2023. He replaces Maltese Gilbert Agius in this position.

In his coaching resume, Michele Marcolini has nine teams from Serie B and C, the most well-known of which are "Cesena" and "Albinoleffe." In the 2017/2018 season, he won the Serie C Cup with the Piedmont club "Alessandria."

Marcolini's assistant in the Malta national team will be Davide Mandelli, who has assisted him at several clubs where he worked. Marcolini and Mandelli are expected to be introduced to local media soon.

As a reminder, in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Ukraine will play in Group C alongside England, Italy, North Macedonia, and Malta.
