The blue-and-yellow team concluded their performance at the second-ever European Championship by securing bronze medals after a match against Hungary (2:1). Following the game, the team's head coach Oleg Shaytanov commented on their success, as reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Handball Association.

— What are your first emotions after the end of the match?

— The whole team was dreaming of winning medals. Perhaps, too much anxiety didn't allow us to play at 100%. However, I congratulate the girls because they have done a great thing for Ukraine. We understand that our country, after a 20-year hiatus, has won medals at Euro.

— Considering the war in Ukraine and the difficulty of preparation, what does this victory mean to you?

— In previous interviews, I already said that Ukraine is strong. Our country is fighting and defending its independence. However, at the same time, it's winning on Eurobasket and earning bronze medals at the women's Euro handball...

— How pleasant was it to see Ukrainian fans in the stands?

— This is truly a significant support for Ukraine. Even simple passersby on the streets of Italy and Portugal supported us. Seeing familiar faces with the Ukrainian flag in the stands — this is simply incredible!

— Were you prepared to play against Hungary's fifth field player?

— Yes, we were preparing for that scenario as well. However, the game always adjusts all plans. Not all components can be executed without mistakes. The most important thing is that we won.

— In the match for third place, the same two players scored against Russia three years ago. Do you see any symbolism in this?

— Indeed, there is symbolism present. These girls had enough experience to find their moments and capitalize on them. Fortunately, this time they became the winners.

— How did you psychologically prepare the team after the match against Spain?

— From the very beginning, we talked with the girls about how the final four consists of two matches. We focused on the first game. We understood that it was very important. We tried to mentally prepare our players so they wouldn't be afraid of the Spanish team. However, we suffered a painful defeat. Despite this, the girls understood that we had another crucial match for medals. This is their merit in being able to switch and demonstrate the handball that helped us win.

— After the match against Spain, you emphasized that Viktoriya Kislava was supposed to play the full first game. Were you planning to use two goalkeepers at this Euro?

— I'll be frank. We currently have two strong goalkeepers. I don't know who is stronger among them. Viktoriya Kislava played the first match because she has a significant experience of playing matches in Spain's championship. I hoped it would help us. However, those mistakes we made didn't allow us to at least score fewer goals. Unfortunately, that's what happened. Against Hungary, Viktoriya Sagaidachna was in goal. She played well. This was enough for the win.
