In the Euro-2022 women's futsal semifinal, Ukraine's national team lost to Spain with a score of 0:9. Therefore, the blue and yellow team now awaits a match for third place against Hungary, which previously lost to Portugal — 0:6.
After the match against Spain, head coach of Ukraine's national team Oleg Shaytanov answered journalists' questions during a press conference.
— Despite the result, how would you evaluate your players' performance on the court?
— First of all, I congratulate Spain's national team for advancing to the final. We played against the current European champion today. The girls gave their all one hundred percent. Yes, we couldn't keep up with the score, but our team didn't give them an opportunity to do so.
— Today there were a lot of mistakes made by key players. What caused this?
— We did indeed make many mistakes today. Each goal has its fault not just with one futsal player, but the entire team and coaching staff. Such errors are due to the class of Spain's national team players.
— How was the goalkeeper selection for this match decided, and why wasn't Viktoriya Sagaydachna brought in when the score on the board was already quite large?
— We had four goalkeepers at our training camp, so the choice was rather difficult. Today's team prepared for a tough match. We counted on Viktoriya Kislova's Spanish experience. Regarding the second part of your question, we planned from the start that she would play all 40 minutes.
— How challenging was it to face Spain's national team, which played in three quarters?
— We played in two quarters. When the score became quite large, we started making changes within the quartets. There were no thoughts about countering Spain with our game in three quarters.
— How did the friendly matches against Spain in Bucha differ from today's match?
— The results are similar. In January, we also conceded many goals. We tried to play higher, but the class of Spain's national team players allowed them to find their moments and capitalize on them.
— As you mentioned earlier, Ukraine's dream is to win a medal. On Sunday there will be an opportunity to do so. How will the team mentally recover after the match against Spain for the upcoming Sunday match for third place?
— Before the start of the tournament, we talked with the girls that the final four consists of two matches. Everyone understands this. Of course, in the dressing room everyone was upset. This is more related to the score. Despite this, we are already starting to think about Sunday's match for third place.
