Today, December 2 in the city of Uglegorsk the Ukrainian women's youth team played its third match in the first qualifying round for Euro-2026 (WU-19).
In the opening game, Oleh Bortnik's wards defeated the hosts, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a score of 2:0, and then beat San Marino — 5:0. The Romanian team also won two matches (6:0 against San Marino and 2:1 against Bosnia and Herzegovina). However, based on additional criteria (number of goals scored), the Romanians outscored the blue-and-yellow team, so in a direct encounter to secure first place in the group, our girls needed only a win.
Compared to the previous match, the head coach of our team made five changes in the starting lineup. The first half was emotional and played evenly but without any goals being scored. After halftime, the Ukrainians continued searching for ways to breach their opponents' goal. However, the Romanians played conservatively and were very careful in defense. In the final minutes, the blue-and-yellow team launched a final assault, but it did not yield results either. Thus, having conceded no goals in three matches and scoring an equal number of points as their rivals, the blue-and-yellow team finished second in the group. However, Ukraine also advanced to League A of the second round as the best runner-up from League B!
It should be noted that in another match of the group, Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated San Marino with a score of 10:0 and finished third.
