Yesterday, Yurii Klymenko’s squad faced Spain, the top-ranked team in the BSWW global standings, and suffered a 1:6 defeat. Today, Ukraine ranked fifth in the standings, took on England, ranked fourth.

The first period was evenly contested. In the 7th minute, Margaryta Yurasova fought for the ball and passed it to Myroslava Vypasnyak, who struck into an empty net to give Ukraine the lead. England equalized in the closing moments of the period, with Rebecca Barron-Clarke’s shot finding the net just as the horn sounded for halftime — 1:1.

The second 12-minute period began with a goal for the Blue and Yellows. Snizhana Volovenko scored with a one-touch finish from a corner kick. In the 20th minute, Ukraine extended their lead with some help from a deflection. Alicia Buckingham attempted to clear a shot from Yuliya Kostyuk but inadvertently sent the ball into her net.

Early in the final period, England’s Nicole Evans narrowed the gap to 3:2. However, less than a minute later, Anastasiya Klipachenko’s long-range strike restored Ukraine’s two-goal advantage.

The match ended with a 4:2 victory for Ukraine, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the tournament final.
