FIFA President Gianni Infantino and newly elected president of the Ukrainian Football Association, Andriy Shevchenko, discussed future cooperation during their meeting in Paris (France). This is mentioned on the official FIFA website.

"Andriy Shevchenko was elected as head of the UAF on January 25, 2024, taking up this position in his country amid a conflict that changed the national football landscape. The Ukrainian teams continue to play, although in other countries, hosting home matches, for example, in Poland and Germany."

It was pleasant to meet Andriy Shevchenko again, this time after his election as president of the Ukrainian Football Association. As a player, Andriy Shevchenko inspired the nation, and I am convinced that he will do the same in his new role,— noted Mr. Infantino.—Recently, Ukrainian football has maintained impressive dynamics during a difficult period, and thanks to his energy, President Shevchenko will give excellent play in his country an additional push, while we are here to support their continuous growth on and off the field.

While the success of the youth team U-21 brought Ukraine its first participation in the Olympic Games this summer, the men's national team still has a chance to qualify for the upcoming European Championship under the leadership of former teammate and current head coach of the national team, Serhiy Rebrov.

Mr. Infantino noted that Shevchenko’s status as an icon of national football and his vision for the future will allow Ukrainian football to move forward and upward. Shevchenko, who was unanimously elected president and previously led the national team, said they discussed a range of topics during their meeting.

He also acknowledged FIFA's important role in supporting UAF, as well as through initiatives such as the FIFA Forward program, FIFA Football for Schools and FIFA Talent Development Scheme — shaping Ukrainian society and nurturing a new generation of Shevchenkos.

"Firstly, we talked about Ukraine and the situation in the country. We discussed how we can not only preserve football in Ukraine but also develop it during the war. This is a great challenge for me. I think that we can work on various projects."

One of my key points — this is helping mass football, developing programs for young generations, — stated Shevchenko.— Also on the agenda was women's football and digitalization. FIFA has many programs that we are already using as an association, but we plan to use them more and see in which direction we can collaborate. Moreover, it is very important for us to have this international connection and work with the FIFA Foundation."
