Note to your attention — operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 6:00 on January 17, 2024 regarding the Russian invasion of our country.

Glory to Ukraine! The six hundred and ninety-third day of Russia's large-scale military aggression against Ukraine has begun.

The enemy continues to ignore laws and customs of war, uses terrorism tactics, carries out missile and air strikes, conducts rocket artillery attacks not only on military but also on numerous civilian objects in our country.

Over the past day, 98 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy carried out 4 missile and 29 air strikes, conducted 49 rocket artillery attacks on positions of our troops and populated areas. At the end of the previous day, Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on central Harkiv. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are injured among civilians. Hospitals, private and multi-apartment residential buildings, other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

During the night, Russian occupiers carried out another air attack using 20 combat drones of Shahed-136/131 type. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 19 combat drones.

Air strikes were suffered by: Vovchans'k in Kharkiv Oblast; Orlyvka, Avdiyivka, Kostiantynivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane in Donetsk Oblast; Mala Tokmachka, Preobrazhenka, Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

More than 120 populated areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts were under artillery fire.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "North" on Volynian and Polesian directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.

On Severian and Slobozhansky directions the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent our troops from redeploying to threatening directions, increases mine-explosive barriers along the state border in Belgorod oblast.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Khortytsia" on Kupyansk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) operations.

On Lyman direction our defenders repelled 11 attacks by the enemy in the areas of Terniv, Yamopolyvky, Tor'skyi in Donetsk Oblast and another 17 attacks near Makieyevka, Bihorivka, Seriyebryanytsivsky forest in Luhansk Oblast and north of Hryhorivka, Veseloye in Donetsk Oblast.

On Bakhmut direction our soldiers repelled 9 attacks by occupiers near Ivanivske, Klyshchyvka and Andriyivka in Donetsk Oblast.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Tavria" on Avdiyivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy who does not give up attempts to encircle Avdiyivka. Our soldiers firmly hold their defense, inflicting significant losses on aggressors. Thus, during the past day, our forces repelled 20 attacks by the enemy in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepanovyi, Avdiyivka and another 15 attacks near Pervomayske and Nevelskoye in Donetsk Oblast.

On Mariupol direction our defenders continue to hold back the enemy near Krasnogorivka, Georgiyivka, Mariupol and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk Oblast, where 17 attacks were repelled.

On Shakhtarsk direction, occupiers did not conduct offensive (assault) operations.

On Zaporizhzhia direction, our forces repelled an attack by the enemy west of Verbovka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

In the area of responsibility of OSUM "Odessa" on Kherson direction, our forces continue to take measures to expand their foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy does not give up attempts to drive out our units from occupied positions. During the past day, the enemy carried out 6 unsuccessful assaults on our troops' positions.

At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers continue active actions inflicting casualties in manpower and equipment on occupying forces along the entire front line.

Over the past day, aviation of the Defense Forces inflicted strikes on areas of enemy personnel concentration, armament and military equipment. Also, using air defense systems of Ukraine, one guided air-to-surface missile Kh-59 was destroyed.

Subunits of rocket forces inflicted damage to an area of enemy personnel concentration, 2 command posts and 2 ammunition depots.
