In the first round, Igor Mosyichov's wards lost to Italy (1:2), while Slovenia managed to defeat Finland (4:2). Now it is time for Ukraine to test the strength of a debutant in European championships.

The Ukrainians quickly took the lead — Malynovsky scored after Skychik's shot, marking his second goal in a row. The Slovenes responded with a shot by Skrinjar that hit the post. Later, Skychik missed high, and Dyachenko saved from Gregoric's shot; neither Malynovsky nor Chop could capitalize on dangerous opportunities.

The game calmed down somewhat until Fedyk capitalized on Ribitsky's pass to double Ukraine's lead at the 15th minute mark. The teams created several more chances before halftime, but the score remained unchanged.

At the start of the second half, Lovrec saved from Snitarenko's shot, while Malynovsky missed wide. However, Slovenia made use of their first opportunity to reduce the deficit through Ruíz. Soon after, Malynovsky completed his brace by successfully converting a rebound.

Later on, both teams exchanged shots from Snitarenko and Ruíz in goalmouth situations; Ribitsky had a good chance following a solo run but missed the target. At the 35th minute mark, Dyachenko parried Skrinjar's dangerous shot and immediately launched to Malynovsky who cleverly outmaneuvered Lovrec for his hat-trick.

Near the end of the match, Slovenia brought on a fifth field player and managed to score one goal. However, Ukraine's victory is not in doubt — 4:2. The final group stage game against Finland will be played by Igor Mosyichov's wards on September 6 (kickoff at 14:00 Kyiv time).
