Ukrainian representatives successfully participated in the European University Higher Education Football Championship in Croatia

The European University Championships of futsal were held in the Croatian city of Split from July 18 to 26.

Ukrainian representatives successfully participated in the European University Higher Education Football Championship in Croatia

Our country was represented at these championships by two teams — the champion of Ukraine among men's student teams, the college of physical education (Ivano-Frankivsk), and the women's team of the Ukrainian State University named after M. Dragomanov (Kyiv), which is the holder of the Cup of Ukraine among women's student teams.

Ukrainian futsal players became champions in the men's tournament. In the group stage, representatives of the college of physical education defeated Bern University (Croatia) — 4:3, Swiss Federal Institute of Sport (Switzerland) — 11:3, Reims University (France) — 8:1, Estonian Academy of Security (Estonia) — 16:1. In the quarterfinals, Ivanofrankivtsi defeated Caucasus International University (Georgia) — 2:2 (penalties — 5:4), in the semifinals they beat Toulouse University (France) — 5:2, and in the final once again took the upper hand over Bern University — 4:3.

In turn, Ukrainian women's futsal players secured second place in the women's tournament. The team of the Ukrainian State University named after M. Dragomanov defeated Zagreb University (Croatia) — 2:0 and Coimbra University (Portugal) — 7:1 at the group stage. In the quarterfinals, Kyivanka beat Tampere University (Finland) — 5:2, in the semifinals they eliminated Lisbon University (Portugal) — 6:0, but in the final they conceded to King Juan Carlos University (Spain) — 4:8.

Also at this European championship among higher education institutions, two referees from Ukraine worked — Maria Mislovskaya (Sumy) and Taras Dem’ianchuk (Ivano-Frankivsk).

We add that the previous European championship among higher education institutions took place in 2019 in Portuguese Braga. Then, the women's team of the Ukrainian State University named after M. Dragomanov won bronze medals, and the men's team of Kharkiv National University named after V. Karazin became a silver medalist.

In 2022, futsal competitions among higher education institutions were part of the European University Games held in Lodz, Poland. Then, the women's team of the Kharkiv National Economic University named after S. Kuznets became a silver medalist, and the men's team of KhNU named after V. Karazin secured fifth place.
