July 5 in Bucharest, the Ukrainian youth national team concluded their 15th European Championship cycle with a semifinal match against Spain (1:5).
Over this period, the Ukraine U-21 team qualified for the final tournament three times. In 2006, Oleksiy Mykhaylichenko's squad won silver medals, while in 2011, Pavel Yakovenko's promising team unfortunately failed to advance from the group stage. Now, Rostyslav Rotan's team has reached the semifinals and secured Ukraine’s first-ever right to participate in the football tournament at the Olympics next year.
The next cycle of the continental youth championship, the Euro-2025 (U-21), in which our opponents will be teams from England, Serbia, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan, and Luxembourg, will begin in September 2023 for a new Ukrainian youth team (players born in 2002 or younger).
