The Ukrainian WU-19 women's national team has learned the names of their opponents in the first qualifying round for the 2024 European Championship. They are in Group L of League B along with Armenia, North Macedonia, and Luxembourg.

— Since the Ukrainian WU-19 women's national team has dropped out of the elite league based on last season’s results, while our opponents remain in League B, most experts consider our team to be the favorite. — Head coach Valeriy Palamarchuk said in a comment to the official website of the UAF. — We are not against it and will make efforts to return to the top tier as soon as possible.

— Is it already known which country will host the first qualifying round?

— Armenia. As for the schedule, everything will be clarified in the coming days by June 21. For now, there are no training camps planned for our team. Therefore, we likely will conduct several joint training sessions right before the start of the tournament.

— How many candidates are there for travel to Armenia?

— In the expanded list of candidates for the Ukrainian WU-19 women's national team, there are 35 names. However, it is not excluded that more additions will be made as the championship in the top league starts in August, and I hope to take note of several talented players then. That’s when we’ll really have a choice.

Draw for the first qualifying round of Euro 2024 (WU-19)

League A

Group 1: France, Italy, Hungary, Northern Ireland.

Group 2: Czech Republic, England, Greece, Wales.

Group 3: Austria, Denmark, Poland, Montenegro.

Group 4: Germany, Finland, Norway, Israel.

Group 5: Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey.

Group 6: Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Faroe Islands.

Group 7: Iceland, Serbia, Belarus, Scotland.

League B

Group 1: Switzerland, Albania, Lithuania, Cyprus.

Group 2: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein.

Group 3: Slovenia, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Moldova.

Group 4: Ukraine, North Macedonia, Luxembourg, Armenia.

Group 5: Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, Georgia.

Group 6: Romania, Slovakia, Kazakhstan.

After the draw, hosts of mini-tournaments will be determined. Matches will take place either from September 19/20 to September 25/26 or from October 24/25 to October 30/31, or from November 27/28 to December 4/5, 2023.

Teams that finish fourth in their groups in League A will continue the season in the second round of League B. The seeding for the second round depends on the positions teams secure in the first round. Seven teams will qualify to join Lithuania in the final stage of Euro 2024 based on the results of the second round of League A.

In League B, 23 teams (including those that dropped out from League A in the second qualifying round for Euro 2022/2023) compete for promotion to League A across six groups. Group winners and runners-up with the best record against first and third-placed teams will advance to a higher division. Lithuania also participates in the competition, despite having an automatic qualification spot as hosts of the final tournament.
