Along with the head coach of the team, Ruslan Rotan, Oleksandr Zinchenko, a half-back in Ukraine's national team, participated in the press conference before the Euro-2024 qualifying match against England on March 26 at Wembley Stadium (kickoff at 19:00 Kyiv time).
"You are having a great season with Arsenal as one of the team leaders. Can you pass this winning mentality to your teammates in the national team? Is it true that you will be the captain if Andriy Yarmolenko cannot play?"
— We have many experienced players, some with even more experience than me. So I don't see how I could pass anything to the boys during this week. We have a lot of leaders in our team, in the dressing room, we play as one unit. As for the captain's armband, the head coach will make that decision. Whoever is the captain tomorrow — everyone will fight for each other and for Ukraine.
"How would you evaluate this generation of Ukraine's national team? How can we beat England?"
— Our task is always to win. Everyone dreams of qualifying for the Euro. We understand how strong England is, and know that we need to put in one of our best performances ever. There's a lot of potential in our team, with many young players who can deliver results. We will fight for each other, for the country, for everyone watching from the stands and at home. We will definitely play with our heads held high.
"Do you feel support ahead of tomorrow's game from your current Arsenal teammates and former Manchester City teammates?"
— We keep in touch, maintain connections, but on the football field there will be no friends. Bukayo Saka hasn't given me full information about England's starting lineup yet.
I would like to thank all of Great Britain for supporting Ukraine and refugees. Without your help, the situation would have been extremely difficult.
"Last year during the match against Scotland you were emotional, especially at the press conference. Tomorrow will be 396 days since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. What emotions do you expect tomorrow with over four thousand Ukrainian supporters in the stands? Do Ukrainian fighters on the front lines inspire you?"
— First, I want to thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to play, as without their efforts there would be no match tomorrow. We are waiting to take the field at Wembley, where there will be many Ukrainian supporters, and they will also watch the game elsewhere. We will try our best to give them a smile from the national team's performance.
"Have your emotions changed over the past year? Have you heard stories from teammates in the national team about how someone was affected by the war?"
— I think everyone in Ukraine has been touched by Russia's invasion. This terrorist war literally changed the lives of everyone. In the setup of the national team, I feel like part of a family. We play football together, and that is the best feeling. However, these 396 days have been a complete nightmare for every Ukrainian — people lost their lives, homes, jobs, everything. So each person in Ukraine has changed over this time.
