Tuesday, March 10, the Ukrainian U-17 national team (players born in 2006 or later) continued their participation in the elite round of Euro 2023 qualification with a match against Ireland.
In their first group 6 match, the young players under Yuriy Moroz defeated hosts Cyprus (4:2). Now our boys were facing the Irish team at the Municipal Geroskipou stadium in Paphos.
The blue-and-yellow team started the match poorly — by the 12th minute, Irish striker Melia had already scored a brace. Afterwards, Ukrainians tried to catch up but their shots lacked accuracy and the Irish goalkeeper stood firm.
On the 62nd minute, Melia scored his third goal, sealing the match's outcome. Near the end of the game, Ireland were reduced to ten men, yet our boys failed to score.
Despite the loss, blue-and-yellow still have a chance to advance from the group. The decisive match against Italy will take place on March 13. Only a victory can secure Ukraine's advancement.
