Today at 6 PM in the Cypriot city of Paphos, on the Stelios Kyriakides stadium, Ukraine's youth national team (players born no later than 2006) will start their campaign in the elite round of Euro-2023 (U-17) qualification with a match against their Cypriot counterparts. On March 10, our team will play against Ireland, and on the 13th — against Italy.
In the elite round, 32 teams are divided into eight groups, with 15 spots available for the final stage, which will take place from May 17 to June 2 in Hungary. Eight group winners and seven runners-up with the best results will advance to the finals, along with the host country.
"I focused on studying the Cypriot team that we'll face in our first match. I paid less attention to analyzing Italy's and Ireland's teams since watching their upcoming matches wouldn't make much sense due to significant changes in youth football over a year. We will base our strategy on their opening round game," — head coach of Ukraine's U-17 national team, Yuriy Moroz, noted in an interview for the official website of the Ukrainian Football Association.
For this camp, 20 players were invited.
